Another Day, Another Day 2

It's just about time for Day 2 of our Event #29, the $10,000 Limit Hold'em Championship.

Our small but skilled starting field of 171 has been reduced down to 102 after the first eight levels of play, and we've got another ten levels to try and get us as close to our final table as we can today. It's a tall task, and we don't expect to get there before the 3:00 a.m. cutoff comes calling.

We're about a half hour away from our scheduled starting time, and we're just starting to see some signs of life over here in the Red section of the Amazon Room. The chips bags have just been dumped on the tables, and the staff is making preparations for a day full of poker.

We expect an on-time start time right at 3:00 p.m., so join us back here in about thirty minutes when the cards go in the air.

Man Down!

Lex Veldhuis on Day 1
Lex Veldhuis on Day 1

Lex Veldhuis came into the day short-stacked with just about 13,000 chips, and he's already burned through those within the first four hands.

Veldhuis is out, and he joins Michael Fong as a casualty of the first couple minutes of Day 2.

Meinders Ain't Bluffin'

Brian Meinders opened for a raise from the hijack seat and Nick Schulman three-bet from the small blind. Meinders called and they saw a {6-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} flop. Schulman led out and Meinders called. The turn came the {3-Hearts} and Schulman led again. Meinders raised and after a bit of a tank, Schulman gave up his hand.

Meinders showed {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs} and took down the pot. He's up to 37,000 from the 21 and change he started with today while Schulman dipped to 68,000.

Hood Heads Out

Daniel Hood got his few thousand remaining chips into the pot preflop with {Q-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds}, up against Nick Schulman and Brian Meinders.

On the flop of {3-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {5-Hearts}, a Schulman bet was enough to fold Meinders and get the cards on their backs with Hood at risk. Schulman held just {A-Clubs} {2-Clubs}, but he was poised for the knockout. The turn {5-Clubs} was a blank, and so was the {7-Spades} on the river, and Hood is unable to stay afloat.

Ivey's Cap Earns Him an Easy One

Phil Ivey raised from late position, and Mark Cortazzo made it three bets from the cutoff seat. In the big blind, Doug Booth came right back with another raise, and Ivey capped it at five bets. Both opponents called.

On the flop of {A-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} {7-Spades}, one single bet from Ivey was enough to end the hand right there, moving his stack up to a respectable 52,000.

Schmelev Advances

On a flop of {8-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} {5-Clubs}, Fabrizio Balsassari bet before Vladimir Schmelev check-raised to two bets. Balsassari came back with a reraise, and Schmelev called.

The turn brought the {A-Diamonds} and an all-in bet from Balsassari, which Schmelev qiuckly called. He turned up {J-Clubs} {2-Clubs}, still on the draw, and Balsassari was looking to fade the clubs with his {A-Spades} {K-Spades}.

He could not fade the clubs. The {10-Clubs} binked the river, and that gives Schmelev the pot and the knockout, moving his way up to 110,000 in the process.
