Negreanu Gets Half

We caught up with action in a four-way pot when the board read {10-Spades}{8-Spades}{2-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}. Daniel Negreanu started the betting, and another player raised. Barry Greenstein called, and the fourth opponent three-bet. They managed to cap the betting without forcing anyone out. The river brought the {8-Diamonds}, and Negreanu checked. One player bet, and Greenstein folded while Negreanu and the other player paid for showdown. Negreanu's {9-Clubs}{7-Spades}{5-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} was good for the top half with a ten-high straight. The other two found themselves quartered, chopping half with 8-6-3-2-A lows.

Break It Up

The players are off on their first 20-minute break of the day, and the PokerNews site seems to be finished with it's afternoon break!

A quick note on the days's schedule:

They will play six more levels today (eight total) with a 60-minute lunch/dinner break after the next two. Then they'll come back for another four levels with a 20-minute break in the middle. Play should end around 3:00 am local time.

Seat Open...?

We walked by Shirley Rosario's table recently to see her seat empty with no chips in front of it. Earlier Rosario said her table was playing very wildly. We know Rosario is an excellent O/8 player, so can only surmise that she ran into some incredibly unlucky run-bad to start the day.

Also not running well -- Tom Dwan. He's already been all in once, rivering a chop by hitting a low after getting it on with {a-Diamonds} {k-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} on the turn of a {3-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} board against a player who tabled {a-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {7-Spades} {8-Diamonds}.

Rafe Comes in Furst

After a few limpers, Nick Binger raised from the cutoff and picked up four callers, including Rafe Furst.

Flop: {k-Spades}{9-Hearts}{2-Spades} - One of the original limpers bet, and only Binger gave up for the price of a small bet.

Turn: {q-Hearts} - Action checked to Furst, who stuck in a bet and got called in all three spots.

River: {6-Diamonds} - The first player to act bet, and the next guy called. Furst raised, and after one player folded, the other two called. Then Rafe turned up {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{9-Spades} and scooped the sizable pot with a king-high straight.

Hellmuth's Three-Card Play No Good

Phil Hellmuth seems to have shown up in a jovial mood for the start of this event. He played a multi-way pot to a flop of {3-Diamonds} {j-Hearts} {9-Clubs}. They were five to a turn of {a-Hearts}, where Hellmuth was the only caller of a single bet.

On the river {6-Spades} both players checked. The turn aggressor showed two pair, aces and jacks. Hellmuth rolled over three cards, {k-} {q-} {10-}, and jokingly tried to claim a Broadway straight.

"That might work in some other places," said the dealer. "But not here."

More Late Arrivals

Seems like every time we go out onto the floor, some new faces pop up. Recently spotted in Blue: Phil Hellmuth, Mike Sexton (seated to Allen Kessler's left), Jean-Robert Bellande, Shaun Deeb, Brent Carter and John Phan.

Negreanu Building

Daniel Negreanu bet at a {10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{5-Spades} flop, and got three callers. He took another stab at the {q-Spades} turn, and again, everyone called. One more bet on the {5-Diamonds} river earned one fold and two calls. He showed {a-Spades}{j-Spades}{10-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for tens full of fives and scooped a 1,950-chip pot.
