Top Pair Good for Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu and Frank Kassela were heads up with the board reading {6-Hearts}{3-Spades}{k-Hearts}. Both players checked, and the turn brought the {2-Spades}. Negreanu led for 85,000 from the big blind and Kassela called.

Negreanu fired 200,000 after the {3-Diamonds} rivered and Kassela looked him up. Negreanu opened {k-Spades}{5-Spades} for a pair of kings and Kassela mucked his hand.

Kassela dipped to 530,000 chips while Negreanu increased his stack to 1,200,000.

Salt in Juanda's Wound

Poor poor John Juanda. After bubbling this event last night, he drew a Day 2 $10K Pot-Limit Omaha table directly adjacent to where Dan Kelly and Shawn Buchanan are seated. Oh, what might have been...

The action folded to Carlos Mortensen who open-shoved for about 330,000 in the cutoff. Brian Hodhod re-shoved from the button having everyone covered, and the blinds released.

Mortensen: {a-Spades}{6-Spades}
Hodhod: {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

Mortensen was behind, and it only got worse when the flop fell {5-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}. The {3-Hearts} on the turn ended it making the {5-Clubs} on the river but a formality.

Hodhod is now right under 2,500,000 chips while Mortensen will have to settle with $58,699 for his 17th place finish.

Crafty Flop Check Yields Huge Pot for Mosseri

Isaac Haxton opened from middle position for 54,000 and Abe Mosseri made the call from the small blind. Both players checked the {Q-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop. The turn came the {9-Clubs} and Mosseri led out for 75,000. Haxton called. The river paired the board with the {Q-Spades} and Mosseri made it 160,000 to go. Haxton looked him up.

Mosseri turned over {5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} for fives full of queens and Haxton mucked. Mosseri is up to 1.5 million while Haxton fell to 700,000.

Brian Hodhod opened for 44,000 from under-the-gun, Vadim Trincher three-bet to 100,000 from the hijack seat and Bonomo shoved for about 570,000 from the cutoff. Hodhod re-shoved for more than 1.4 million and Trincher folded.

Bonomo {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}
Hodhod {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}

Bonomo couldn't have loved the {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} flop as Hodhod picked up the nut flush draw, then the {A-Clubs} hit the turn, making Hodhod top pair. The river was the {2-Diamonds} and Bonomo departed in 18th place, while Hodhod increased his stack to more than 2.1 million.

Quick Start for Somerville

Jason Somerville opened to 48,000 from the hijack seat and Daniel Negreanu called right behind him in the cutoff. The action folded behind them and the dealer flopped {j-Spades}{6-Clubs}{6-Spades}.

Somerville sat quietly, riffling chips with his right hand before finally sliding out 75,000 worth. Negreau requested that the dealer cut them down, she obliged and Negreanu made the call.

The turn brought the {a-Spades} and Somerville led again - this time for 135,000. Negreanu looked puzzled as he grabbed his water to take a swig. He sat on the decision for a second before finally folding.

Negreanu slipped to 738,000 chips and Somerville pushed just above 1,000,000.
