"Downtown" Brown Takes a Pot

An under the gun player raised and the hijack three-bet. Chad Brown called from the button and the big blind came along as well. The under the gun player then four-bet and the hijack capped it. Brown and the big blind called and they all saw a flop of {K-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{3-Spades}.

All players checked to the {6-Hearts} on the turn at which point the under the gun player bet. The hijack raised and Brown called. The other players got out of the way as the {A-Diamonds} came on the river. The hijack checked and Brown bet. Surprisingly, the hijack mucked. Brown scooped the pot and is now sitting with 8,000.

Why Can't We Be Friends?

Trouble on Table 278
Trouble on Table 278

There is always a group of players in a WSOP tournament that just can't get along, and in a shootout format that only makes things worse.

Table 278 is today's feature for "Why Can't We Be Friends," because a player there just received his second penalty of the day. According to his tablemates and table-neighbor Allen Kessler, the man made some pretty harsh and borderline racist comments towards an Asian dealer and an Asian player.

The specifics are unclear, but what we do know is the man has received a one-round penalty for his second infraction of the day. If you are unaware, penalties are tracked by Harrah's throughout the WSOP up until the end of the Main Event. If a player is a habitual abuser of the rules, then their penalties will continue to increase all the way up to potential banishment.

Recent Eliminations

Among those who've recently hit the rail are Phil Ivey, Chris Ferguson, Berry Johnston, Bryan Micon, Mark Seif, Marco Traniello, Greg Debora, Brock Parker and Tom Schneider.

With the blinds continuing to increase, the eliminations should start to mount soon.

Tables Getting Shorter

With the increase of blinds, the eliminations have started to mount; as such, more and more tables are starting to drop to four and five handed play. This means the blinds hit each player even faster and really increases the pace of the action.

A couple of these tables include Eric Baldwin, Tom Dwan, Jonathan Little, Marcel Luske and Michael Mizrachi.

Iacofano Slips

With the board reading {5-Spades}{10-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{q-Hearts}, Kevin "kice32" Iacofano check-called a bet from an opponent at his table.

The river brought the {j-Clubs} and Iacofano bet.

"Well," his opponent sighed. "If you've got it, you've got it."

He had less than two bets and raised all in. Iacofano called opening {j-}{10-}, but was no good against the {q-}{q-} of his opponent.

No Mercy for Mueller

Jason Mercier raised to 400 from the hijack and Greg Mueller popped him from under the gun. The big blind called as did Mercier.

The flop came {10-Spades}{8-Clubs}{A-Spades} and both the big blind and Mercier checked. Mueller bet 200 and the big blind called. Mercier then raised to 400 and both Muller and the big blind called.

The turn was the {A-Diamonds} and the big blind checked. Mercier bet and the other two players called. When the {Q-Diamonds} hit the river, the big blind checked and Mercier bet 400. Both Mueller and the big blind gave up on the pot and folded.

With that win, Mercier brought his stack up to around 5,000.

Baldwin Busts

Brandon Hawkins has eliminated Eric "basebaldy" Baldwin from the tournament. We unfortunately missed the hand, but Baldwin has vacated his seat at Table 298 and Hawkins was stacking his chips.

The table is now four handed, and Hawkins has roughly 15,000 chips.

Rowdy Player

There is a loud, disruptive (And clearly intoxicated) player in Seat 2 over at Table 278. Throughout the tournament he has shouted and caused a lot of commotion, which has garnered the attention of the tournament staff.

He has received several penalties and his latest just landed him one that sent him to the rail for two rounds. If he keeps it up, which we expect he will, he may find himself out of the tournament even though he currently has around 11,000 in chips.
