Peppe Runs into Trouble

Nichoel Peppe and another player were all in for a 19,000 pot with Peppe having her opponent covered.

Peppe: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Opponent: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}

Peppe was in a world of trouble and failed to improve as the board ran out {q-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}. After doubling up her opponent, Peppe is now down to 12,000.

Chopping With Ivey = Win

With 4,225 in the pot and the flop reading {8-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{8-Spades}, the preflop raiser led out for 2,000 and Phil Ivey smooth-called as the other two active players released their hand.

The turn landed the {A-Diamonds} and Ivey again called a bet; this time amounting to 5,000 as the {K-Hearts} rolled off on the river.

The preflop raiser checked and Ivey casually tossed a 5,000-denomination chip into the pot to put his opponent deep into the tank.

Eventually - after nearly two minutes passed - Ivey's opponent made the call tabling her {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} to match Ivey's {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}.

With the pot chopped up, Ivey climbs a little to slightly over 34,000 in chips.

Watch Out for the Quick Sand

Dave Sands
Dave Sands

A player in middle position limped before Dave "Doc" Sands raised to 1,125 from the hijack seat. The cutoff and button both called as did the limper. The four of them saw a flop of {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and action checked to Sands. He whirled out a bet of 3,450 and the next player folded. The button called and the other player folded.

Action was now heads-up to the turn, which came the {2-Spades}. Both players checked to see the {8-Spades} trip up the board on the river. Sands checked and his opponent fired 8,000. Sands thought and made the call.

Sands held the {J-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and his opponent mucked the {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. Sands' full house was good and he improved to 67,000 in chips.

Harrison Fighting Back

Harrison can afford
Harrison can afford

Audley Harrison has proved today that he can roll with the punches - every time we pass by his table, his stack is wildly different to what it was before.

For example, we strolled by his table not 15 minutes ago and found him on a rather lacklustre 9,000. But just now, we found him betting 1,000 on the river of a {4-Clubs}{q-Spades}{a-Hearts}{5-Spades}{7-Diamonds} board. His opponent folded and Harrison was back up to almost 30,000.

Is It an Eight or Nine?

Action folded to the man in the small blind who raised to 800 and Todd Brunson made the call from the big. The flop came down {2-Spades}{8-Clubs}{8-Spades} and both players checked.

When the {4-Spades} hit the turn, the small blind checked his hole cards and then bet 1,200. It was Brunson's turn to have another peek at his hole cards and after squeezing them out, he shot back in his chair. "I forgot if I had a nine or an eight," Brunson said as he mucked {9-}{10-}.

"Good thing it wasn't," the small blind said as he flashed the {A-Spades}. Brunson is sitting with about 20,500.

It's Moon Time!

Facing a limp from middle position and a completion from the small blind, Darvin Moon checked his option in the big blind to see a flop of {6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{8-Spades} fall.

Both the blinds checked to the open-limper who fired out 475 with both the small blind and Moon calling.

The turn of the {10-Hearts} was checked through to see the {4-Clubs} land on the river and the small blind followed it by firing out a bet of 1,250.

Moon made the call and the open-limper folded to see Moon table his {4-Spades}{3-Clubs} to collect the pot and move to 49,450 in chips.

Life of Brian

Brian Townsend
Brian Townsend

One player who's been as quiet as a mouse in a library is online powerhouse Brian Townsend. Seated on the feature table with Vanessa Rousso, he appears to have played a very snug game thus far, his stack constantly hovering around the starting stack whenever we take a sneaking glance.

On my last venture into the battlefield, however, I caught him playing two consecutive hands, first opening from the button to 800 before taking it down on the {3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} flop with a standard bet against the small blind.

On the very next hand, Townsend opened to 800 again, this time from the cut-off. Paul Jackson in the big blind was the only caller leading to a {J-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop where Jackson check-raised Townsend's c-bet of 1,200 to 3,000. Townsend made the call.

After both players had checked the {K-Diamonds} turn, Jackson gave up the ghost on the {10-Diamonds} river, folding to what appeared to be a chunky bet of 11,000 to enable Townsend to take the pot. Consequently, the man known as sbrugby is up to 36,000.

Face the Ace

There was 2,500 in the pot with a flop reading {9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{5-Spades} when Chris Ferguson checked over to his opponent in Seat 1. The man reached into his pocket and popped a Mentos into his mouth before announcing, "Check."

The turn was the {4-Hearts} and both players checked, as they did when the {9-Hearts} hit the river. Ferguson showed {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} but couldn't beat the {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts} of Seat 1. Ferguson rapped the table and seemed content with his stack of about 35,000.

Nguyen Building

Anh Van Nguyen
Anh Van Nguyen

A player limped in before another player raised to 1,000 from middle position. Anh Van Nguyen was in the cutoff seat and three-bet to 2,700. Only the raiser called.

The flop came down {J-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{3-Spades} and the first player checked to Nguyen. He fired a bet of 3,700 and his opponent folded.

Constant aggression and pressure like this is how Nguyen has built his stack to about 120,000 in chips.
