Mercier Sent Packing

Level 9 : 1,200/2,400, 0 ante

Just a few minutes ago, we reported that Jason Mercier had been crippled by Jennifer Harman, so we knew his chips were going in the middle soon. Sure enough, we saw him put the last of his chips in preflop and get two callers in Robert Zoellner and Steve Landfish. The players checked down a board of {7-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}, and Zoellner showed {a-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} for a pair of sevens. That was good enough to beat the {a-Clubs}{10-Spades} of Landfish and the {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts} of Mercier, and he was sent to the rail.

Parker vs. Richey

Action folded to Brock Parker on the button and he put in the standard raise. Brett Richey then three-bet from the small blind, which forced the big blind out of the hand and put the action back on Parker. After a call, the flop fell {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} and Richey led right out. Parker made another call and watched the {7-Clubs} peel off on the turn.

Again it went bet-call, leading to the {9-Hearts} river. Richey didn't stop and threw out one last bet, but this time Parker thought better of it and gave up on the hand the hand.

Alaei's Cowboys

We missed all of the preflop action but found Takashi Ogura all in from the big blind against Alex Melnikow in the cutoff and Daniel Alaei in the hijack who had already built a sidepot with some raising. On all three streets of the {10-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{2-Spades} board, Melnikow check-called only to be shown Alaei’s {K-Hearts}{K-Spades} which was good for both the side-pot and main pot as Ogura was eliminated.

Harman Cripples Mercier

Level 9 : 1,200/2,400, 0 ante

When we came to the table, the flop read {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{2-Hearts}. Jason Mercier had just put out a bet, and Jennifer Harman raised. Mercier made the call, and the turn came the {6-Clubs}. Mercier checked, and Harman bet out again. Mercier called, and the river came the {q-Hearts}. Again, Mercier checked and reluctantly called when Harman bet, and she showed {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} for a rivered full house. Mercier mucked, and he has been knocked down to 1,700

EFro Takes a Hit

Eric Froehlich raised from middle position and ran smack dab into a three-bet from Domenico Denotaristefani in the hijack. Froehlich made the call after action folded back around, and the duo watched the flop come down {3-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}. Froehlich proceeded to check-call a bet, which he continued to do on the {10-Clubs} turn and {4-Diamonds} river.

When the time came, Denotaristefani flipped over {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts} to show top pair with top kicked. It was good as Froehlich mucked his hand.

Better Kicker for the Russian

Level 9 : 1,200/2,400, 0 ante

Vladimir Shchemelev raised on the button and Kenny Hsiung re-raised from the small blind. Shchemelev made it four bets and his opponent called as they saw a {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{9-Spades} flop. Hsiung check-called Shchemelev’s bet and the action was the same when the {2-Diamonds} hit the turn. Both players checked on the {Q-Clubs} river and Hsiung turned over {A-Spades}{5-Hearts}. Shchemelev showed {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} which had his opponent outkicked as he scooped the pot.

Good Start for Mortensen

Carlos Mortensen raised from the cutoff and was immediately met with a three-bet from Darren Elias on the button. The blinds got out of the way as Mortensen made the call. After the flop came down {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}{Q-Spades}, Mortensen check-raised his opponent, Elias called, and Mortensen bet in the dark before seeing the {K-Hearts} peel off on the turn.

From there, Elias called, Mortensen again bet dark, the {9-Clubs} appeared on the river, and Elias gave up on the hand. Pot to the 2011 WSOP Main Event Champ!

Meanwhile, Jerrod Ankenman has been eliminated from the tournament.

Some Action Over at Table 283

First, Jennifer Harman raised on the button and Steve Landfish re-raised from the big blind. On the {A-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} flop, Landfish led out and Harman raised. Landfish announced re-raise and Harman instantly mucked her hand.

Then the next hand, Tom Dwan raised in the hijack and both blinds called in Landfish and Erik Cajelais.
On the {7-Spades}{4-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop, Landfish checked, Cajelais bet and Dwan raised. Landfish folded but Cajelais came back with a three-bet which Dwan called. Both players checked the {Q-Clubs} on the turn and Dwan called a Cajelais bet on the river. Cajelais turned over {9-Spades}{9-Clubs} which was good as Dwan mucked.

Seidel vs. Greenstein

Barry Greenstein raised from the hijack only to have Erik Seidel three-bet from the small blind. The big blind got out of the way, Greenstein made the call, and the flop fell {2-Clubs}{2-Spades}{4-Spades}. Seidel was first to act and put out a bet, which Greenstein called.

After the dealer burned and turned the {10-Hearts}, Seidel bet, Greenstein raised, and a call followed. Seidel proceeded to check the {7-Diamonds} river, Greenstein bet, and Seidel slung his cards to the muck.
