James Dempsey arrived at the break and it didn't take him very long to be knocked out. Having doubled up, Dempsey ran aces into a set before getting his stack in the middle with against on a board and failing to hit quads.
Preflop Phil Laak was already all in and there were two other players who were involved in a side pot. The flop came and the player in the big blind bet out 5,000. The other player in the hand reluctantly folded and the remaining hands were revealed.
Laak:
Big Blind:
Laak had outflopped his opponent by hitting a pair of twos, and things only got prettier from there when the turn and river brought the and giving Laak a flush.
Although the action is unknown, all the money was in on the flop of . David Williams had for bottom set against the of Andy Black for a substantially sized pot in the neighborhood of 30,000 chips.
The turn and river bricked out for Black and David Williams continues to climb. After having fallen back some, he now sits with 63,000 with that pot.
After a flop of , Hoyt Corkins ended up all in versus Carter Gill.
Gill:
Corkins:
Corkins aces were in the lead even after the turn brought the , but the river was the giving both players a flush, but Gill held the superior one and Corkins was eliminated from the tournament.
On a flop of , Barry Greenstein was able to get his opponent to put all of his chips in with . Greenstein had and had his opponent drawing very slim. The turn was the and the river was the . Both were bricks for his opponent and after the count down, Greenstein just barely had him covered.
We reported earlier in the day that husband and wife Erick Lindgren and Erica Schoenberg started play today sitting at the same table. That table was broken up quite awhile ago, but the poker gods apparently have a sense of humor.
When Erica's new table got broken up her next random table draw put her smack dab next to her husband.
Phil Hellmuth walked over to their table and pointed at the two of them saying, "Really?" to which Lindgren replied, "Second time today!"
Action folded around to Annette Obrestad in the small blind and she completed. Ville Mattila was in the big blind and raised to 1,200. Obrestad called.
The flop came down , Obrestad checked and Mattila bet the pot worth 2,400. Obrestad immediately put in her stack which was a valid raise for less than the pot. She just barely had Mattila covered and he was forced to call as he was pot committed to his hand.
Obrestad:
Mattila:
Mattila had an inside straight-draw that was no good because a Four would give Obrestad a better straight. However, his Ace-high was good enough to be in the lead as he had to avoid a Nine, Eight, Seven or Four as well as running hearts to double up. The turn bricked off with the as did the river with the and he now has 14,000. Obrestad is crippled with under 500.
