Watt Chips Up

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

Simon Watt and an opponent got all their chips in the middle before the flop. Watt held {a-Clubs}{a-Spades} and his opponent held {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}.

The flop ran out {7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}. Watt had a sweat with two diamonds on the board. The {6-Hearts} hit on the turn and the {3-Clubs} hit on the river sending Watt's opponent to the rail.

Watt now sits with around 85,000 in chips.

Alaei Can't Fade Flush Draw

The board read {4-Hearts}{j-Spades}{3-Spades} when we reached Table 38, and three players had cards including John Andress, and Daniel Alaei. Andress and Alaei both had 1,750 invested, when a third player moved all in for 9,900. Andress tank-folded, but Alaei made the call.

Opponent: {k-Spades}{7-Spades}
Alaei: {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}

The {8-Diamonds} on the turn was a brick, prompting Alaei's opponent to rap the table and gather his things. Before he could stand though, the {8-Spades} slammed on the river, giving him a winning flush. Alaei smirked at the comical act, then cut out 8,000 chips to send across the table.

Jarvis Jams

2010 November Niner Matthew Jarvis opened to 1,325 from under the gun, a player in middle position three-bet to 3,200, and Vanessa Selbst cold-called on the button. Jarvis then four-bet to 9,600, the player in middle position folded, and Selbst again called.

The flop came down {4-Spades}{10-Spades}{6-Clubs}, and Jarvis tank-checked to Selbst who paused. She eventually fired 9,400, Jarvis instantly moved all in for effectively 45,000, and Selbst folded.

Another Chapter for McManus

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

James McManus has been nursing a short stack for most of the afternoon, and just now open-raised all in for 8,850 from the button. Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott, sitting to McManus' left in the small blind, hemmed and hawed a bit, then finally said he was calling. Ulliott nearly showed his cards before the dealer held out a hand to indicate the big blind was still left to act. "You can flash them, if you want," smiled the BB, and Ulliott chuckled in response. The BB folded, and Ulliott and McManus tabled their cards.

Ulliott showed {A-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and McManus {K-Spades}{J-Spades}. The flop came {6-Hearts}{6-Spades}{9-Clubs}, and the author of Cowboys Full: The Story of Poker stood up from his chair. Then came the turn, the {J-Diamonds}, and McManus moved to sit back down. The river was the {2-Hearts}, and McManus had survived. He now sits with about 19,000, while Ulliott has about 65,000.

No Back-to-Back for Mercier

WTF? I can't win back-to-back now
WTF? I can't win back-to-back now

Jason Mercier was all in in the small blind, and a player on the button had him at risk.

Mercier: {5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}
Opponent: {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

Mercier was safe on the flop ({8-Spades}{3-Clubs}{10-Clubs}), and the turn ({j-Spades}), but the {9-Clubs} on the river gave his opponent a king-high straight, eliminating Mercier from the tournament.

Joe Serock
Joe Serock

Joe Serock, rocking slightly in his chair while listening to his noise-canceling headphones, opened from the button with a raise to 1,350 and got one caller in the big blind. The flop came {5-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}, the big blind checked, and Serock continued for 1,900. His opponent called. Both then checked the {9-Spades} turn.

The river came the {2-Diamonds}. Serock's opponent checked. Serock, sporting a Dirk Nowitzki Mavs jersey, stopped rocking for a moment and sat quietly before betting 4,800, forcing the fold. Serock sits with about 52,000 at present.
