Talk About a Cold Deck

Level 4 : 100/200, 0 ante

Perhaps you remember this scene from last year's Main Event.

The Pavilion room has one table -- numbered White 63 this year -- that is absolutely freezing. It's hard to see what the source of the Arctic breeze is, but it almost has to be coming from the ventilation system overhead. The immediate vicinity of that table has to be at least 10 degrees cooler than in the rest of the room, and it became quite a source of complaints last year. This 2010 photo was taken after one of the players went to the shop during a break and bought Snuggies for his whole table.

We haven't really heard much about that the temperature situation until just now when a group of players called the floor over to Table 63. Taylor von Kriegenbergh and Darryll Fish are among the players seated over there, and everyone pleaded with the floor to do something about the temperature. From last year's experience, we're pretty sure there's nothing that can be done, but Adrian still offered to close the doors to the room and try to reduce the airflow, at least.

If you draw Table 63 this year, make sure you remember to bring your hoodie with you. Or a Snuggie!

Pilgrim Doubles

Dwyte Pilgrim - Survives an All-In Encounter
Dwyte Pilgrim - Survives an All-In Encounter

A player in middle position raised to 750 and Dwyte Pilgrim re-raised to 2,025 from the small blind. The middle position player then went all in and Pilgrim called putting his tournament life at risk.

Pilgrim: {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

The board ran out {8-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{10-Spades}{3-Spades} and Pilgrim's set of tens helped him double his stack to 9,400.

Poker Calisthenics?

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

As strange as it may seem to someone who doesn't play poker, sitting at a poker table for hours at a time can actually be very fatiguing and difficult to endure. Players often take quick breaks between hands or get massages to help alleviate any physical discomfort. Exercise is always an option as well.

We've spotted a player from table 21 who is frequently standing to swing his arms about, do a number of different stretches and kicking his legs back and forth. A masseuse spotted him and offered him a massage and he decided to take her up on her offer and is now back in his chair.

Clements Doubles

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

We caught the action on a {9-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} flop with three way action. The first player checked and the second player bet 1,525. Clements, who was on the button and third to act, quickly raised to 3,300. The first opponent, who had checked, thought about it for a couple of moments before moving all in. The initial bettor folded and Clements wasted no time in making the call for less, 8,675 total.

Clements: {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}
Opponent: {8-Clubs}{6-Spades}

The turn and river bricked out on the straight draw and Clements was able to double up.

Clements still has two rebuy lammers left, along with his 21,000 in playable chips.

Always "Roothlus"

Adam "Roothlus" Levy was just spotted winning a small pot over at his table. After a flop of {8-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{5-Spades}, the small blind checked, the big blind bet 475, Levy called from the button and the small blind folded. The turn was the {7-Spades} and the big blind bet out 950 which Levy again called. When the {a-Diamonds} hit on the river, both players opted to check. The big blind showed his {7-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for two pair with a busted straight-flush draw but Levy flipped over his {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for a better two pair and he took down the pot.

After the hand Levy's stack was at 7,800 with one rebuy chip behind.

Bowker Bows Out

Kyle Bowker was down around 3,000 chips when he three-bet shoved into Mohsin Charania's opening raise. (Word on the street is that Bowker ran pocket aces into pocket kings earlier in the day.) Charania quickly made the call with {Q-} {Q-}, and Bowker's {K-} {Q-} was in a world of trouble.

The board ran out {2-}{8-}{q-}{j-}{7-}, and Bowker was already drawing dead with one to come. He's gone, and Charania needed that pot as it boosts his stack back to about 11,200.

Duhamel Doing Work

A player in late position raised to 300 and Jonathan Duhamel re-raised to 800 from the hijack. Action folded back to the original raiser who opted to call. The flop came {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{4-Spades}, and the first player check-called a bet of 925 from Duhamel. When the {j-Spades} came on the turn both players checked and they saw the {7-Spades} hit on the river. The first player checked a third time and Duhamel fired out a bet of 2,325. The other player tossed his cards into the muck and Duhamel took the pot.

On the very next hand action folded to Duhamel who raised to 400 and everyone folded giving him another small pot.

After the hands Duhamel had 11,600 in his stack.
