Ticking Up There

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

We've ticked over the 300-player mark here in this $5,000 PLO/8 event, and that's already a fine increase over last year's field size. With registration still open for well over two hours, we'd expect to see another few tables worth of players turn up by the time the registration window closes.

It's-a Me, Dario!

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

We walked up to the table in time to see Dario Minieri call a bet of 1,400 on the turn of a {7-Clubs} {6-Spades} {8-Spades} {J-Hearts} board. He was heads-up to the river, and his opponent bet all in for 2,800 on the {2-Clubs}. Minieri quickly called with {4-Spades} {5-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} for the straight, and his opponent's {A-Clubs} {3-Spades} {2-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} made the nut low to drag the other half of the pot.

This serves basically as a chip count update for Minieri, who we've only recently started to see around the Amazon Room this week. He's up to 20,500 here in the early going.

Table of Certain Doom

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

One of the late-reg tables has Dan Heimiller, Erik Seidel, David Sklansky, and James Akenhead in the first four seats and Bruno Fitoussi in the eight hole.

Yikes.

Laak Chops

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante
Phil Laak
Phil Laak

There were five players that took a cheap {J-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {7-Hearts} flop, but only Laak and one other player saw the turn. It was a bet of 350 that Laak called, and he and his opponent checked through the {2-Diamonds} turn. On the river, the {3-Spades} drew a leading bet of 875 from the Unabomber, and he was quickly called.

Laak's {7-Spades} {7-Clubs} {A-Hearts} {2-Hearts} was good enough to take the top half with a set of sevens, but his opponent's {A-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} grabbed the low half. Still, Laak is up to 20,500 after picking up a few chips in that pot.

The Shark Chops

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

We're not sure of the action, but a series of raises and reraises saw Humberto Brenes all in on a flop of {6-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}, though he had two rebuy chips behind, against an unknown opponent.

Brenes: {4-Spades}{5-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{3-Clubs}
Opponent: {10-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{3-Spades}{7-Hearts}

The {5-Clubs} turn gave Brenes a full house, but also gave his opponent a qualifying low. The {3-Diamonds} river didn't change a thing, putting an end to all the excitement with a simple chop.
