The third and final day of Event 28, $2,500 No Limit Hold’em Four-Handed, of the World Series of Poker has come to an end. After returning with eight players only Timothy Adams walked away with $392,476 and his first WSOP gold bracelet.

It took less than one full level to trim the field to five and move to the ESPN Feature Table in the Amazon Room. Andrey Gulyy, Toan Trinh and Torrey Reily were all short stacked and looked to double up. But their luck didn’t hold and they missed out on the final table.

The players played about a level and a half before the next elimination would occur. Brendon Rubie opened for 33,000 and Greg Merson shoved behind him. Rubie called holding {A-Spades} {Q-Hearts} and Merson had {A-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}. Rubie paired his queen on the turn and Merson never improved, sending him home in fifth place.

Anthony Gregg had been on short stack for all of Day 3 after enjoying some time in the chip lead on Day 2. He made his final stand by shoving preflop with {A-Spades} {3-Clubs} and Rubie called with pocket deuces. Gregg never improved his hand and exited in fourth place.

During three-handed play Timothy Adams scored a sick double up. Adams opened for 48,000, Brendon Rubie raised to 112,000 and Adams called. The flop came {7-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds}, Rubie checked, Adams bet 201,000 and Rubie check-raised to 976,000. Adams tank-shoved and Rubie called. Adams held {A-Diamonds} {K-Spades} and Rubie had {10-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds}. The board completed {Q-Hearts} {2-Clubs} and Adams took the chip lead.

The third place finisher was determined when Adams and James Schaaf each put 48,000 in preflop and the board came {Q-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {2-Hearts}. Schaaf check-called the flop and the {Q-Clubs} came on the turn. Both players checked to the {Q-Spades} river. Schaaf bet 175,000, Adams put him all in and Schaaf called. Schaaf tabled pocket fours but Adams had him beat holding pocket tens.

Heads up play covered three levels of action and it was a slow affair. Rubie and Adams traded small pots back and forth, mostly min-raising or betting twice the minimum.

The last hand occurred when Rubie opened for 80,000 on the button and Adams raised to 225,000. Rubie called and the flop fell {8-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} {10-Diamonds}. Adams led out with 255,000 and Rubie called to see the {5-Spades} turn. Adams moved all in and
Rubie went deep into the tank. Rubie called after a few minutes, only to face bad news. Rubie tabled {K-Spades} {Q-Hearts} and Adams held {A-Clubs} {Q-Spades}. The {A-Spades} fell on the river, shipping the match and the bracelet to Adams.

Brendon Rubie - 2nd Place

Brendon Rubie opened for 80,000 on the button and Timothy Adams made it 225,000 to play. Rubie called and the flop came {8-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} {10-Diamonds}. Adams bet 255,000 and Rubie called.

The turn came {5-Spades} and Adams moved all in.

Rubie spent a good amount of time in the tank. He mumbled, "I have king queen. Do you have ace jack or something?"

After a little while longer in the tank Rubie announced a call.

Adams: {A-Clubs} {Q-Spades}
Rubie: {K-Spades} {Q-Hearts}

Adams was in the lead but had to dodge a king to clinch the win. The river fell {A-Spades} and Rubie was eliminated.

Timothy Adams raised to 48,000 on the button and Brendon Rubie folded his small blind. James Schaaf defended from the big blind and a {Q-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop hit the board.

Schaaf check-called 57,000 from Adams to see the {Q-Clubs} turn. A check from both players landed the {Q-Spades} river which Schaaf bet 175,000 at. Adams took about 45 seconds before raising all in with the bigger stack.

Schaaf took a deep breath before calling for the rest of his stack, about 910,000.

Adams tabled {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}, besting Schaaf's {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}, to win the pot and take a commanding lead into heads-up play.

Monster Double Up For Adams Through Rubie

Timothy Adams
Timothy Adams

Timothy Adams raised to 48,000 on the button and Brendon Rubie three-bet to 112,000 from the small blind. James Schaaf folded his big blind and Adams four-bet to 243,000. Rubie asked for a count of what Adams had behind, about 1.4 million, and called.

The flop fell {7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and Rubie checked it to Adams who bet 201,000. Rubie put together chips for a raise, and a hefty raise it was. He made it 976,000 to go, sending Adams into the tank about two minutes before he re-raised all in for 1,552,000 total. Rubie shrugged and called, turning over {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for a flush draw and straight draw.

Adams tabled {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades} for ace high and was ahead, but had plenty of outs to fade. He did just that as the {Q-Hearts} turn and {2-Clubs} river gave him the pot with ace high.

"He's the sickest," said Tristan Wade, on the rail to sweat his friend. "Coin it. Sickest."

After James Schaaf folded his big blind, Rubie asked for a count. Upon hearing that Gregg was all in for 291,000, Rubie called with {2-Hearts}{2-Spades}.

Gregg tabled {A-Spades}{3-Clubs} and was looking for third double though Rubie today. However, it was not meant to be. The board rolled out {10-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{8-Spades}{2-Clubs}, ending Gregg's tournament with a fourth-place finish.

Toan Trinh opened to 20,000 on the button and was called by Anthony Gregg in the small blind and James Schaaf in the big blind.

The flop fell {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and Gregg led out for 33,000. Schaaf called, but Trinh popped it to 100,000. Gregg ducked out of the way, Schaaf quickly called, and the {6-Hearts} hit the turn. A check from Schaaf led to a Trinh bet of 100,000, but he found himself faced with a decision when Schaaf raised all in with the bigger stack.

Trinh went deep into the tank, about three minutes worth, before he called with {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}. Schaaf tabled {8-Hearts}{6-Clubs} for trips and held up through the {A-Clubs} river to end Trinh's tournament in seventh place.
