When we arrived at Lex Veldhuis' table, there was already a flop showing and Veldhuis was involved in the hand against two opponents. The action was checked to Veldhuis and he promptly bet 450. Only one player would make the call, while the other sent his cards into the muck.
The dealer flipped over a on the turn and this time Veldhuis checked behind his opponent. The river would see Veldhuis' opponent lead this time, making it 1,100 to see his cards. Veldhuis looked slightly perplexed, eventually making the call. The player tabled his , enough for a turned straight to see Veldhuis' cards into the muck. Despite losing that hand, Veldhuis has had a good start to the day, sitting with well over the starting stack.
For those that don't know, Veldhuis is not only known as one of the best poker player's in the world, he is also known for his exploits fighting Betrand Grospellier in the MMA ring. Truly entertaining stuff.
At the moment the tournament clock is letting us know that 2,354 players have registered in today's event so far. Lat registration is still alive and kicking and we see more players take seat every moment, so we are sure that number will increase.
The good start to Lex Veldhuis' day isn't so great anymore, with his stack disintegrating from well over the start stack to well under. We recently watched Veldhuis slamming his cards into the muck on a board after Velduis had called his opponent's all in. The player had tabled , with the rivered full-house enough to leave Veldhuis fuming.
Randy Lew has already seen his day come to an, with Lew taking to Twitter to let us know he had busted.
nanonoko Randy LewBusto because I think my friend threw a bad luck wish for me today in the well, didn't need to ask him because he'll never tell #callmemaybeJune 20 2012
Just prior to the end of the break, a World Series of Poker gold bracelet has been awarded to Max Steinberg for his victory in Event 33: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em. The players have taken their seats after standing for the US national anthem and the cards are back in the air.
Dennis Phillips has had a great start to the day, seeing his stack rise to around 13,000 during these early stages of the day.
We were recently at Phillips' table with a board spread along the felt and Phillips involved in the hand with one opponent. There was already 5,000 in the pot at this stage and Phillips opted to check to his opponent on the river. The player sent a bet of 1,825 tumbling onto the table and Phillips went into the tank.
After quite some time Phillips gave a sort of shrug and said, "well okay," as he made the call. Phillips' opponent immediately mucked his hand face down and Phillips gave another shrug as he turned over his and raked in the pot.
