Today wasn't the day of Liv Boeree. She was no longer in her seat and we asked her former opponents what happened.
On a board Boeree got her chips into the pot with , but that was no good against her opponent's . The river was a and the 2010 European Poker Tour San Remo winner was eliminated.
Boeree has two cashes at this year's WSOP so far, but she won't add another in this event. Tomorrow there is a $2,500 No Limit Hold'em event in which we'll probably see her back in action!
With 2,835 entrants in this bad boy, let's bring you news from the Gold Section of the Brasilia room.
Jeff Madsen is the third-youngest World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner (in fact he has 2 of them) and was the 2006 WSOP Player of the Year. So far, he has 4 WSOP cashes this year, including a 7th place finish in Event #14: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout so he is in fine fettle. We have just noticed him seated in the Gold Section of the Brasilia Room and he is settling quickly into the action.
There was a limper in middle position before Madsen made it 275 to play from the cutoff. One fold later and the small blind was calling and the limper was folding. So we were heads-up to the flop and the dealer gave them both the which was checked through. On the turn , the small blind bet 600 and it was met with a very quick call from Madsen. Fifth street was the and the small blind checked to Madsen. He took a swig from his water bottle, rolled his eyes in his head and just made the call. He turned over for the winning hand as the small blind mucked. Madsen currently has 2,350.
Another player who has just arrived in the Gold Section - and is on form - is the Brazilian Thiago Nishijima. Nishijiama has also cashed in 4 WSOP events and made a final table where he finished in 8th place in Event #36: $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout. Nishijima has 3,900 chips.
One player who is no longer seated in the Gold Section is WSOP bracelet holder Kathy Liebert. We have been told that she ran into and has exited stage left.
Just like Jared Hamby, Todd Terry was just also a victim of the fist pump in the second level of today's event. When we arrived on the scene there was a player all in for 1,325, Terry was all in for a couple hundred more and another player was in the tank. After a while the third player folded and we witnessed the following showdown.
Todd Terry
All in player
The board ran out giving the all in player a double up, but he didn't realize that until he walked back to the table. When the cards were turned over he ran away, not able to take the sweat of faith. As he walked back, and noticed the doubled up, he pulled out a fist pump and looked over at his girlfriend at the rail. Terry was knocked down to just a few chips while this gentleman was having a great day so far.
We just walked up to Jared Hamby's table and saw the following showdown go down. The board read when the cards got flipped and Hamby showed . His opponent turned over , and pulled out an old fashioned fist pump when the river got dealt. The river was the and Hamby was left behind with just a couple hundred chips.
Jared Hamby, who had a killer year back in 2007, will have to run really well to get back in this thing! In 2007 he won three World Poker Tour side events and finished runner up in the Mandalay Bay Poker Championship. In total he won over $1.2 back in that year.
In 2008, Ivan Demidov, announced himself on the world scene by finishing 2nd to Peter Eastgate, in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event, earning $5,809,595, and 3rd in the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) Main Event, earning $608,995. His noticeable performances have been scant since then, including only one cash in a WSOP event (in 2009), so he will be hoping for better things today. Demidov has gotten off to a fine start and has 6,600 in chips.
Sharing a table with Demidov is WSOP bracelet holder Keven Stammen. Stammen Won Event #13: $2,500 No-Limit Hold'em for $506,786, back in 2009. Here is Stammen losing some change to another man with fine WSOP form - Adam Geyer.
Stammen opened up the action with a 125 bet from early position and three players called before Geyer squeezed out a 700 shove from the small blind. Stammen isolated with a 1,525 bet and the pair were heads-up with Geyer at risk of elimination.
Geyer
Stammen
The flop of handing Geyer a straight draw and it completed on the turn. The river not changing a thing and Geyer had a lifeline.
