Gomes Sliding

Alex Gomes opened for 10,500 from early position and cleared the field all the way around to Adam Kornuth in the big blind. The latter made the call and proceeded to lead out for 23,000 on the {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{7-Diamonds} flop. Gomes made the call and then watched as Kornuth bet pot on the {7-Hearts} turn.

Gomes made sure that he heard Kornuth correctly and then gently slid his cards to the muck.

Dario Doubles (and Then Some)

Dario Alioto
Dario Alioto

Dario Alioto, owner of one bracelet won at 2007 WSOP Europe in a £5,000 PLO event, was just now all in with his tourney life at risk.

After two players limped and the small blind completed, Alioto reraised the pot for 20,000 from the big blind, then Nicholas Verkaik reraised the pot from one seat over prompting the others to fold, then Alioto to call with his remaining chips.

Alioto held {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} and Verkaik {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{2-Spades}. The board brought five face cards — {Q-Hearts}{J-Spades}{J-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} — and Alioto's full house took the pot.

Triple for the Bear

Barry Greenstein
Barry Greenstein

After action folded around to Charalampos Lappas on the button and he raised to 10,000, Alex Gomes three-bet to 34,000 from the small blind. Barry Greenstein was in the big and called off for around 21,000, while Lappas called to see the {6-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop.

Gomes immediately led out with a pot-sized bet, which forced Lappas out of the hand.

Showdown
Gomes: {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{3-Spades}
Greenstein: {A-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{4-Spades}{5-Spades}

Gomes had flopped top set, but Greenstein had an open-ended straight draw and plenty of low outs. The {5-Hearts} turn completed both for Greenstein, while the {Q-Spades} on the river allowed him to scoop.

Despite losing that hand, Gomes managed to take down the small side pot and is still up from the last time we checked in on him.

Myers Mucks Before Exiting

Lee Watkinson opened for 10,000 only to have a short-stacked Phillip Myers move all in for 12,000. Adam Kornuth made the call from the small blind, Watkinson called the additional 2,000, and it was off to the {K-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds} flop.

Both Kornuth and Watkinson checked, and then the former bet 10,000 on the {Q-Diamonds} turn. Watkinson made the call and then slid out 28,000 after Kornuth checked the {8-Spades} river. A call was made and Watkinson ({A-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}) and Kornuth ({A-Spades}{2-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}) ended up chopping the pot as Myers simply mucked and took his leave.

Lappas Leaps Up, Gomes Gone After Huge Pot

Alex Gomes
Alex Gomes

We've just had a major chip swing — and a sudden, surprising elimination — over on Table 427. Such is the way of PLO8.

Following a flop of {10-}{7-}{2-}, Alex Gomes and Charalampos Lappas managed to bet enough to put all of Gomes's chips in the middle and most of Lappas's. Gomes held {Q-}{J-}{10-}{7-} for top two pair while Lappas had {A-}{A-}{9-}{3-} for aces and the nut low draw.

The turn brought a {3-}, and Gomes was still good as far the high hand went, and Lappas had yet to make a low. Then a {2-} fell on the river, pairing the board to give Lappas the best high hand and all of Gomes's stack.
