What a whirlwind of a tournament! The schedule had called for this one to conclude tomorrow, but the pace was fast enough that all was decided tonight, thanks in large part to the young German Dominik Nitsche storming through the final table to win his first WSOP bracelet in Event 59: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em.

Today's Day 3 began with 51 survivors from the starting field of 4,620 still battling for the bracelet. Play moved quickly through the first four levels, with that field being trimmed to 29 after two hours, then down to 16 after four.

Among those hitting the rail by then were Event 1: $500 Casino Employees No-Limit Hold'em winner Chiab "Chip" Saechao (39th), Jake Cody (35th), Thomas "GnightMoon" Fuller (30th), and Aditya Agarwal (19th). It would take another couple of hours to play down to nine, with David Steirman (16th), James Taylor (15th), Yoav Tenenbaum (14th), Daniel Thomas (13th), Hieu Nguyen (12th), Joshua Prager (11th), and Iakov Onuchin (10th) all making deep runs but falling just shy of the final table.

By then Nitsche had already assumed a commanding chip lead, and once the final table began he immediately taking the initiative, opening most pots and quickly creating distance between himself and the rest of the pack. Eventually the short stacks would start pushing in, and Nitsche was there to pick them off.

First it was Daniel Eichhorn falling with {K-Spades}{Q-Hearts} to Nitsche's {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs} to go out in ninth. Soon after it was Jonathan Miller taking his chances with {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} against Nitsche's pocket kings, and when Miller's hand failed to improve they were down to seven.

Pocket kings would also be the cause of Martin Vallo's demise in seventh place, with Jonathan Hilton using them to best Vallo's pair of sixes. Then Then Frankie Johnson would be the next to try his luck against Nitsche with {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} only to see the chip leader turn over a familiar hand — {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}. Five community cards later Nitsche's hand was still best, and with five remaining Nitsche had amassed more than half of the chips in play.

The Nitsche steamroller would keep going, gathering two more eliminations before the end of Level 27. First a short-stacked Randy Lanosga reraised shoved with pocket sixes over a Nitsche open, but the latter had {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts} and soon Lanosga was on the rail. Then Sebastien Comel called a Nitsche five-bet shove with {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts} and was racing against Nitsche's pocket nines, but the board rolled out eight-high and Comel was out in fourth.

Finally they reached the end of the level and the break. Nine players had been sitting around the table an hour before, but now they were down to three. And Nitsche had almost all of the chips, with more than 10.5 million while Alex Cordero and Jonathan Hilton were each sitting with less than 2 million.

It was shortly after play resumed that the two short stacks went to battle, with Alex Cordero committing the last of his stack on a {10-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} board holding {K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} (queens, a flush draw, and a gutshot) against Hilton's {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs} (aces). The river was the {2-Diamonds}, Cordero's run had ended in third.

Heads-up play began with Nitsche well in front with nearly 10.5 million to Hilton's 3.4 million. Whereas Nitsche had been a front runner most of the day, Hilton had mostly battled his way to the final two with a short stack, and in fact at one point had appeared destined for a 15th-place finish until a lucky river card kept him in the tourney.

Hilton would ultimately duel with Nitsche for about an hour, although never was able to add much to his stack, and soon found himself down below 1 million. He'd survive through several double-ups, but Hilton was low on chips again when he at last called Nitsche's all-in shove and hoped his {A-Clubs}{8-Hearts} would hold against Nitsche's {K-Spades}{5-Spades}. The board then came {3-Hearts}{J-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}, that river nine giving Nitsche a better straight, and in one day they had played down from 51 players to just one.

Nitsche becomes the second German player this summer to claim a bracelet, joining his countryman Jan-Peter Jachtmann, winner of Event 39: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha. In just three years, Nitsche has had a lot of tourney success all over the world, with a Latin American Poker Tour title, numerous cashes all over Europe and in the European Poker Tour, a World Poker Tour final table (in Marrakech, Morocco), and now a World Series of Poker bracelet!

Congratuations to Dominik Nitsche, Event 59 champion! And thanks to all for following our coverage here on PokerNews. Be sure to check in on the Main Event, already underway!

Jonathan Hilton Eliminated in 2nd Place ($405,156)

Jonathan Hilton - 2nd place
Jonathan Hilton - 2nd place

Jonathan Hilton battled with a short stack against Dominik Hilton for well over an hour, but alas for Hilton, Nitsche was finally able to win an all-in and take the last of his chips.

In the last hand, Nitsche open-pushed all in with {K-Spades}{5-Spades}, and Hilton called quickly for about 1.4 million worth with {A-Clubs}{8-Hearts}. Hilton was still best through the {3-Hearts}{J-Spades}{Q-Clubs} flop and {10-Clubs} turn. Then came the river... the {9-Diamonds}! Both players made straights, but Nitsche's was best.

Nitsche recognized he'd won a moment before his large rail of supporters did, shouting first, then was soon followed by a chorus of cheers and hugs from the crowd. Soon Nitsche was congratulating Hilton for a well-played tourney, and Hilton was congratulated in turn by those here supporting him.

Alex Cordero Eliminated in 3rd Place ($291,725)

Alex Cordero - 3rd place
Alex Cordero - 3rd place

Jonathan Hilton opened to 120,000 from the button and Alex Cordero made the call from the small blind. Dominik Nitsche got out of the way and it was heads-up going to the flop.

The flop came {10-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and Cordero led out for 160,000. Hilton made the call to see a turn, which brought the {Q-Clubs}. This time Cordero checked, prompting a 275,000 bet from Hilton. Cordero tanked for a bit, but then announced he was all in for 925,000 on top. Hilton made the call and hands were revealed.

Cordero: {K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} for a pair of queens and both straight and flush draws.
Hilton: {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for a pair of aces.

The {2-Diamonds} bricked for Cordero and he was sent to the rail in third place.

Sebastien Comel Eliminated in 4th Place ($215,592)

Sebastien Comel - 4th place

Sebastien Comel opened to 100,000 from the button and action folded over to Dominik Nitsche in the big blind, who three-bet to 250,000. Action was back on Comel, who paused and then slid out a four-bet to 425,000. Nitsche announced a five-bet all in and Comel called off his stack - about 1.3 million total.

Comel: {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}
Nitsche: {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}

Comel was in better shape than his former tablemates were against the one-man wrecking machine, however, the {2-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{8-Spades} board failed to improve Comel's hand and he was eliminated.

Randy Lanosga Eliminated in 5th Place ($160,665)

Seats are emptying fast at this final table. And the towers of chips sitting in front of Dominik Nitsche are growing and growing.

Just now Nitsche was opening once again for 100,000 from the cutoff, then Randy Lanosga responded with an all-in push from the small blind for his last 610,000. It folded back to Nitsche who quickly called, and once again the young German was tabling another big pocket pair.

It was {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts} this time for Nitsche, putting him well ahead of Lanosga's {6-Hearts}{6-Spades}. The board rolled out {5-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{10-Spades}{Q-Clubs}, and just like that they are down to four.

Frankie Johnson Eliminated in 6th Place ($120,748)

Frankie Johnson - 6th place
Frankie Johnson - 6th place

Sebastien Comel opened with a minimum-raise to 100,000 from early position, then Frankie Johnson reraised to 500,000 from the cutoff. Dominik Nitsche checked his cards, then announced he was reraising over the top all in. The blinds and Comel quickly skedaddled, and Johnson didn't hesitate before calling.

Johnson: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}
Nitsche: {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}

Pocket kings again for Nitsche! And a bad time for Johnson to pick up a big-but-not-quite-that-big pair. The flop came {8-Spades}{6-Hearts}{J-Clubs}, then the turn brought the {K-Hearts} to give Nitsche a set and make the {2-Spades} just a bit of trivia.

The Nitsche express keeps rolling. He's still stacking, but it appears he certainly has more than half the chips in play now with five left.

Martin Vallo pushed all in for his remaining 420,000 from early position and action folded around to Franklin Johnson on the button, who announced, "Call." Behind him in the big blind, Jonathan Hilton then announced he was all in himself for 1.1 million total. Action was back on Johnson, who folded after some thought.

Hilton: {K-Spades}{K-Clubs}
Vallo: {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}

Vallo's tournament life was in dire straits and the {4-Spades}{Q-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} board ensured his fate of a 7th-place finish.

Jonathan Miller - 8th place

The applause congratulating Daniel Eichhorn for his ninth-place finish had barely died down when Jonathan Miller was pushing all in from early position with his last 275,000. It folded to Dominik Nitsche in the cutoff who called, the others got out, and the players flipped over their cards.

Miller had a better ace this time, turning over {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}, but Nitsche had a made hand with his {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}. The cards came {5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}, then {10-Spades}, then {9-Spades}, and Miller is out in eighth.

Daniel Eichhorn opened from the cutoff and action folded over to Dominik Nitsche in the small blind, who three-bet to 205,000. It folded back over to Eichhorn and he announced he was all in. Nitsche quickly called and hands were revealed.

Eichhorn: {K-Spades}{Q-Hearts}
Nitsche: {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}

Eichhorn was dominated and would need help going to the flop. No help came, though, as the board ran out {Q-Spades}{4-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{J-Hearts} - leaving Eichhorn out-kicked and sending him to the rail.

Nitsche is up to 4.5 million now.

Randolph Lanosga opened for 90,000 from under-the-gun and action folded around to Iakov Onuchin in the cutoff seat, who pushed all in for about 550,000. It was folded back to Lanosga, who thought it over and announced, "Call," to put Lanosga at risk.

Lanosga: {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}
Iakov: {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}

Iakov was in excellent shape to double going to the flop, which came {5-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{3-Hearts}. Lanosga picked up outs with a pair of queens, but was still well behind. The {6-Diamonds} turn changed nothing, however, a {J-Spades} fell on the river - giving Lanosga two-pair and sending an unlucky Onuchin to the rail.
