Phillips Runs into Aces

A player in middle position opened to 400 and found one caller in Dennis Phillips from the cutoff.

Both players checked the {7-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop. Phillips' opponent checked again on the {Q-Spades}, prompting a 550 bet from Phillips. His opponent then check-raised to 1,550. Phillips called after some thought.

The {9-Spades} completed the board and Phillips' opponent fired another 1,550 into the middle - sending Phillips deep into the tank. He eventually flung in a call after much deliberation and his opponent tabled {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs} for pocket aces. Phillips revealed he had the {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} and mucked.

Phillips is down to his last 1,000.

Main Event Mustache

Level 4 : 75/150, 0 ante
Eric Baldwin
Eric Baldwin

Eric Baldwin has re-introduced his signature mustached look. He's grown it out a few other times and really sports it during baseball playoffs.

"I wasn't going to grow it in until the Main Event," Baldwin said. "But it was just too perfect with the 4th of July party."

He plans to keep the mustache throughout the Main Event. We can only hope he makes the final table and will have sport the Main Event Mustache for several more weeks.

Barbero Nearly Felted

Jose "Nacho" Barbero took a massive hit to his stack. He had pocket tens and shoved on the button. A middle position raiser called holding pocket kings. The board ran {5-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {J-Spades} {10-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} and Barbero is left with just 75.

Rubie's Raise Takes One Down

We caught up with the action on a {7-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{9-Clubs} flop with three players.

The player in the big blind led out for 600 and Brendon Rubie raised to 1,5000 from the cutoff seat. His opponent on the button folded, as did the original bettor after some thought.

Rubie, who recently placed second in Event 28: No-Limit Hold'em Four Handed, is sitting on 5,600 at the moment.

Cada In, Cada Out

2009 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Joe Cada's stay in Event 59 was especially brief, lasting only a few hands.

Shortly late registering and sitting down for his first hand at the start of Level 5, Cada lost most of his stack and found himself down to just 675 chips. That's when Cada open-pushed from early position with {k-}{9-} and saw an opponent reraise-shove with {7-}{7-} to clear the field. A {7-} flopped, Cada never caught up, and he's gone before his seat even got warm.
