Rast Binks the River; Roars into Chip Lead

Brian Rast
Brian Rast

A player in early position opened to 5,100 and was called by another player in the cutoff position. Brian Rast re-raised from the small blind to 16,600 total. Both of his opponents' called for a three-way pot.

The flop came {J-Clubs}{8-Spades}{8-Clubs} and Rast led right out for 23,000. He got a fold from his first opponent, however, his opponent in the cutoff raised to 50,000. Rast mulled it over and announced, "All in," for the rest of his stack. He was quickly called and hands were revealed.

"You have an eight?" Rast asked his opponent.

Yes - he did.

Rast: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}
Player in cutoff: {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

Rast's tournament life was in dire straights as he would need a queen and only a queen to survive.

Turn: {5-Diamonds}

River:....{Q-Spades}

Bink!

Rast improved to queens-full and he scooped the huge pot - eliminating his opponent in the process.

"Poker is all skill, boys," Rast joked.

Rast is up to 250,000.

Dunst Gets Lucky

When Tony Dunst was all-in holding {a-Hearts}{7-Clubs} against an opponent's {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}, he had got out of his seat and even grabbed his suit jacket. In the hand in question, Dunst three-bet shoved from the button for around 35,000. The big blind made the call and the original raiser got out of the way and the two players turned their hands over.

The {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} was not a great looking one for Dunst's opponent and when the {7-Diamonds} hit the turn, it only got worse. The meaningless {4-Clubs} on the river secured the victory for Dunst and he took the double-up to sit with a healthy stack.

Juanda Losing Steam?

We know there have been quite a few John Juanda posts already - but he keeps getting involved in huge pots.

Here's another that did not go in Juanda's favor, for a change.

On a flop reading {J-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}, Juanda led out from the small blind for 20,700. His lone opponent shoved all in from middle position for nearly 90,000 and Juanda quickly called.

Juanda: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades} for top set.
Opponent: {9-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for a flopped straight.

Juanda was behind and would need the board to pair to make a full-house or quads if he were to win the pot.

The {5-Hearts} turn and {7-Clubs} river bricked for Juanda and he was knocked back down to 140,000.

Idema Cruising Through

We haven't been able to catch Daniel Idema in a hand today, despite the fact that every time we walk past his table his chip stack has grown larger. His stack is currently one of the biggest in the field and we can only assume that he has slowly been chipping away at his table. Readers may remember Daniel Idema from when he was the final table bubble boy at the 2012 Aussie Millions Main Event just a few months ago. Don't forget that Idema also took down the WSOP bracelet in the $10,000 Limit Holdem Championship last year. Clearly he has some skills and so he is definitely one to watch here in Event 9.

Juanda Crushing Souls

John Juanda is currently stacking up plenty more chips to add to his stack. He is quite easily the chip leader in the room right now. A large portion of his chips came when Tom Marchese stacked off holding {a-}{q-} against Juanda's {a-}{k-}.

Could this event be Juanda's 6th WSOP bracelet? It's early days, but he is on the right track.
