Sandeep Pulusani Wins Event #44: $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em!

Level 31 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante
2013 WSOP Event 44 Gold Bracelet Winner Sandeep Pulusani
2013 WSOP Event 44 Gold Bracelet Winner Sandeep Pulusani

After 3 days of all ins, bad beats and aces on the river, Sandeep Pulusani took down Event #44: $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em for his first gold bracelet and $592,684. Pulusani started the day fourth in chips and remained relatively quiet. Even though he started heads up play with an 8:1 chip deficit, his game took on a new dimension and he dominated play throughout the battle until he claimed victory.

The road to the final table was littered with notables making the money including: Randy Lew (113th), Lauren Kling (112th), Sorel Mizzi (90th), Barth Hanson (88th), Eddy Sabat (39th) and Matt Marafioti (23rd).

It took about five hours to narrow the field from the 22 players that started the day to the official final table of nine. All eyes were on Jason Mercier when play began, as he chipped up early and was building a healthy stack. He ended up being eliminated 16th in one of the most memorable hands of the tournament. All the money went in on the turn when Mercier had a full house only to see it bettered when an ace fell on the river.

Just 12 hands into the final table, the first player, Phillippe Vert, was eliminated in 9th place, when for the second time during the day, a two-outer ace came on the river for a huge pot. The next player to go was Pedro Rios in 8th place. Rios spent the whole day as a short stack but had some double ups in key places to get to the final table.

Nam Le was eliminated in 7th place when a true cooler hand transpired. Action folded around to Le in the small blind who woke up to find kings and Niall Farrell looked down at aces from the big. Farrell was also responsible for the elimination of Mark Teltscher in 6th place, when Teltscher’s two overs couldn’t win a coin flip against the pair of Farrell.

The Day 1 chipleader, Zo Karim, was our 5th-place finisher. Karim accumulated a lot of chips early but wasn’t able to get momentum on his side later in the day, when it really mattered. Martin Hanowski lost a flip to Niall Farrell for over 2/3 of the chips in play and left him with less than 10 big blinds. That would set him up for a 4th-place finish just a few hands later.

Michael Rocco was the big stack for most of the day heading into the final table but he never seemed to get anything going while on the main stage. He was eliminated in 3rd place when his sixes failed to improve against Farrell’s kings. The final elimination of the night came when Niall Farrell lost a few key all ins and Pulusani paired his kicker on an ace versus ace hand.

Now that Pulusani has claimed his bracelet, our coverage here is complete. Keep your browser on PokerNews.com for all the latest news and tournament coverage from the 2013 World Series of Poker. Good night from Las Vegas!

Niall Farrell

Hand #181: Sandeep Pulusani raised to 200,000 and Niall Farrell went all in. Pulusani called and the hands were tabled.

Pulusani: {a-Clubs}{3-Hearts}
Farrell: {a-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}

Many times this hand would chop but the board was kind to Pulusani when a three came on the flop. The board read {3-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{a-Hearts} and Pulusani took the pot and eliminated Farrell in 2nd Place.

Michael Rocco Eliminated in 3rd Place ($229,500)

Level 29 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante

Michael Rocco

Hand #111: Niall Farrell raised to an uncharacteristically 125,000 instead of the all too common of late all in raise. Michael Rocco took the opportunity to reraise all in. Farrell snap-called and the hands were tabled.

Rocco: {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}
Farrell: {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

The board ran out {4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{j-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and Farrell's kings win the pot, eliminating Michael Rocco and setting up a heads up match between Sandeep Pulusani and himself.

Hands #85-89 Martin Hanowski Eliminated in 4th Place ($166,579)

Level 29 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante
Martin Hanowski
Martin Hanowski

Hand #85- Niall Farrell made it 125,000 to go on the button. Martin Hanowski moved all in for 550,000, and it folded back around to Farrell, who did the same, giving Hanowski the pot.

Hand #86- Farrell made it 125,000, and he took down the blinds and antes.

Hand #87- Farrell got a walk in the big blind.

Hand #88- Hanowski got a walk in the big blind.

Hand #89- Farrell raised to 125,000 on the button, and Hanowski moved all in for 600,000. Farrell made the call, and saw that he would need to catch a card to win.

Farrell: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}
Hanowski: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}

Farrell's rail started calling for an ace, and the dealer oblidged then, as the flop came down {a-Hearts}{7-Spades}{5-Clubs}. Hanowski was now looking to hit a two outer, but the board completed nines, coming {9-Clubs} and {9-Hearts}.

Farrell increased his chip lead, while a dissapointed Hanowski exited in 4th place.

Hands #80-84: Farrell Doubles Through Hanowski For Massive Pot

Level 28 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Niall Farrell
Niall Farrell

Hand #80: Sandeep Pulusani raised to 110,000 and Martin Hanowski reraised to 250,000. Pulusani folded and Hanowski won the pot.

Hand #81: Niall Farrell raised to 110,000 and it folded around.

Hand #82: Michael Rocco raised to 100,00 from the small blind and Pulusani reraised to 250,000 from the big.

Rocco tanked for a solid two minutes and was trying to get some information from Pulusani. He literally leaned in over the table to get a good look at Pulusani's face. Pulusani must not have given away anything because Rocco went in the tanked for a good two minutes more. Pulusani finally called the clock and Rocco ended folding before the final countdown. Pulusani showed the {3-Clubs}.

Hand #83: Hanowski raised to 100,000 and and Farrell called. Both players checked the {2-Spades}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades} flop. Farrell check-folded to Hanowski's bet on the {5-Hearts} turn.

Hand #84: Pulusani raised to 110,000 and Farrell reraised to 265,000. Hanowski 4-bet to 425,000, Pulusani folded and Farrell reraised all in. Hanowski asked for a count and made the call with almost 2/3 of the chips in play at stake.

Farrell: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Hanowski: {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

While Hanowski started the hand in the lead, Farrell's ace came right on the {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{9-Spades} flop. Farrell would maintain the lead through the {9-Clubs} turn and {5-Spades} river, giving him a majority of the chips in play and leaving Hanowski with less than 10 big blinds going into level 29.

Hand #61 Zo Karim Eliminated in 5th Place ($122,974)

Level 28 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Zohair Karim
Zohair Karim

Hand #61- Zo Karim open shoved all in from the button, and Martin Hanowski made the call from the small blind.

Karim: {k-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Hanowski: {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

Karim was drawing live going to the flop, and he hit top pair when it came down {5-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{q-Spades}. Hanowski was the one who now needed to catch the card, and just like it has done all day long, an unlikely {a-Hearts} came to give Hanowski the lead back. Karim was hoping for the re-suckout on the river, but the {3-Diamonds} gave him no help.

After winning that hand, Hanowski is our chip leader with 3.3 million.

Hand #47: Niall Farrell raised to 85,000 and Martin Hanowski made the call. Farrell continued for 100,000 on the {4-Spades}{q-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop and Hanowski called. Farrell bet 165,000 on the {10-Clubs} turn and Hanowski called. Farrell bet 260,000 on the {K-Hearts} river and Hanowski folded.

Hand #48: Sandeep Pulusani moved all in from the small blind and Mark Teltscher folded from the big.

Hand #49: Farrell received a walk in the big blind.

Hand #50: Teltscher moved all in from the button and Niall Farrell moved all in behind. Everyone else folded and the hands were tabled.

Teltscher: {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}
Farrell: {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}

The flop came {3-Spades}{6-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} and was followed by the {10-Spades} turn, which gave Teltscher a few more outs. The {2-Diamonds} didn't help Teltscher and Farrell's fives held to win the pot and eliminate Teltscher in 6th place.

Pedro Rios - 8th
Pedro Rios - 8th

Hand #28- On the first hand back from the dinner break, Pedro Rios moved all in for his last 510,000. Martin Hanowski made the call, and we had a race on our hands.

Hanowski: {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
Rios: {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

The flop kept Hanowski in front, coming {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}. Rios could now catch a queen for the win, and the {a-Hearts} gave him another king for an out as well. None of that came though, as the river brought the {9-Spades}, and Rios was knocked out in 8th Place, while Hanowski is up to 2.8 million.

Hands #11 and 12 Philippe Vert Eliminated in 9th Place ($42,230)

Level 26 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Phillip Vert
Phillip Vert

Hand #11- Nam Le made it 60,000 to go, and Martin Hanowski called from the small blind. Michael Rocco also called from the big blind. The flop came {9-Spades}{10-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}, and Hanowski fired out 72,000. Both players folded, and Hanowski won the pot.

Hand #12- Phillippe Vert made it 65,000 to go from early position, and it folded around to Hanowski, who repopped it to 135,000. Vert made the call, and the flop came {9-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}. Vert checked over to Hanowski, who fired out 125,000. Vert tanked for about a minute before tossing out a check raise to 250,000. Hanowski made the call, and there was already over 600,000 in the middle when the {5-Clubs} hit the turn.

Vert thought it over for another minute or so before firing out 325,000. Hanowski tanked for about 45 seconds, then in a flash, he moved all in, and Vert snap called.

Vert: {6-Clubs}{6-Spades}
Hanowski: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}

Vert had flopped a set of sixes, and he was well out in front of Hanowski's pocket aces. Hanowski was looking for an ace and an ace only on the river, and....well.....

River: {a-Hearts}

For the second time today, a two outer ace came on the river to decide a huge pot, as Hanowski came from behind to knock Vert out in 9th place. The mother ship was full of groans as a shell shocked Vert made his way out of the stadium, leaving Hanowski with a mountain of new chips, that all in all looked to be 2.1 million.
