Brunson Loses One, Then Ships

Level 14

No-Limit Hold'em

Doyle Brunson opened to 15,000 from the button and Brock Parker made it 40,000 to go from the small blind. Action came back around to Brunson and he folded.

A few hands later, Parker was under-the-gun and made it 15,000 to go. Gary Benson flatted the button and Brunson three-bet-shoved for about 105,000. Parker folded and Benson followed suit, allowing Brunson to take down the pot and stay alive in the tournament. He now has about 140,000.

Massive Scoop for Kassela

Level 14

Stud 8

Jason Mercier: {x-}{x-} / {a-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{3-Spades} / {x-}
Frank Kassela: {x-}{x-} / {6-Spades}{8-Spades}{9-Spades}{5-Spades} / {x-}
John Hennigan: {x-}{x-} / {4-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} / {x-}

Mercier led out on fourth street, Kassela and Hennigan both called, and Mercier opted to check on fifth. Kassela bet, both of his opponents called, and the same action occurred on sixth.

On seventh, only Mercier called Kassela's bet.

"Straight flush and an eight low," the 2010 WSOP Player of the Year said, tabling {a-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{7-Spades}.

Mercier examined the cards, then mucked his own.

Brunson Bets Out Parker

Level 14

2-7 Triple Draw

Brock Parker opened the button with a raise and Todd Brunson three-bet from next door in the small blind. The big blind got out of the way and Parker called.

For the first draw, Brunson took one card while Parker took two. Brunson continued out with a bet and Parker called. The second draw saw Brunson stand pat and Parker pull one. Brunson continued out, Parker raised, and Brunson thought for a while before flatting. Brunson stood pat again on the second draw and Parker pulled one final card.

Brunson fired out a bet for the final betting round and Parker flashed the {6-Clubs} before letting go of his cards. Brunson took down the pot and now has 225,000 in chips.

Pot-Limit Omaha

James Obst opened for 12,000 only to have Vladimir Schemelev, who finished runner-up in this event back in 2010, three-bet the pot to 45,000 from the button. Brandon Shack-Harris then flatted from the big, Obst called, and three players saw a flop of {a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{10-Spades}.

Shack-Harris checked, Obst bet the pot of 108,000, and Schemelev moved in for 108,500. Shack-Harris folded and Obst called the additional 500.

Schemelev: {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Obst: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}{a-Spades}{8-Diamonds}

Obst was ahead with a set, but Schemelev had plenty of draws. One of them was a straight draw, which came in when the {K-Clubs} appeared on the turn. The {5-Spades} failed to pair the board on the river, and Schemelev more than doubled.

Ashby Stays Alive

Level 14

2-7 Triple Draw

Richard Ashby was down to just a few big bets when he raised and Elior Sion called from the big blind.

This time, Sion checked and Ashby bet. Sion called and on the final draw, Sion took one card and Ashby stood pat.

Both players checked and Ashby showed {J-}{8-}{6-}{3-}{2-}, which was enough to take down the pot.

Kassela Bests Steicke

Level 14

Limit Hold'em

David Steicke popped it up from under the gun and action folded around to Frank Kassela in the big blind. Kassela called and the two took a flop of {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. Kassela checked and Steicke continued out. Kassela came over the top with a raise and Steicke stuck around.

The {3-Spades} fell on the turn and Kassela fired once again. Steicke called and the {9-Diamonds} completed the board on the river. Both players checked and Kassela tabled {4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} for aces and fours. Steicke mucked and Kassella pulled in the pot. He now has about 290,000 while Steicke has dropped to 370,000.
