The Ace of Clubs

Level 19

Pot-Limit Omaha

John Hennigan raised to 50,000 and then called when Abe Mosseri three-bet to 180,000 from the cutoff. Hennigan then checked the {q-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop and Mosseri bet 250,000. Hennigan check-raised the size of the pot and Mosseri gave it up, but not before flashing the {A-Clubs}.

Kassela with the Bigger Straight

Level 19

Pot-Limit Omaha

Chun Lei Zhou raised to 60,000 from early position and Brandon Shack-Harris called from the cutoff. Frank Kassela came along from the small blind and three players saw a flop of {3-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}. Two checks saw Shack-Harris bet 90,000, and only Kassela called to see the {9-Spades} turn. Both players checked and then Kassela fired out 290,000 on the {2-Hearts} river.

Shack-Harris snap-called with {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{x-}{x-} for a wheel, but it was no good as Kassela held a bigger straight with the {6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}.

Zhou Drops Below a Million

Level 19

Razz

Brandon Shack-Harris called with a {7-} only to have Jesse Martin complete with a {2-}. Allen Kessler called with {4-}, and then Chun Lei Zhou raised with a {5-}. Shack-Harris folded, Martin reraised, and Kessler got out of the way. Zhou called and then bet when he took the lead on fourth.

Martin called and then led out when he retook the lead on fifth. Zhou called that bet but then folded to one on sixth.

Shack-Harris: {x-}{x-} / {7-}fold
Martin: {x-}{x-} / {2-}{k-}{6-}{7-}
Kessler: {x-}{x-} / {4-}fold
Zhou: {x-}{x-} / {5-}{j-}{5-}{q-}fold

Hennigan vs. Kessler

Level 19

Razz

John Hennigan completed with a {7-} and then called when Allen Kessler raised with a {4-}. Hennigan bet when he took the lead on fourth and Kessler called. Hennigan then check-called a bet on fifth before calling bets on both sixth and seventh.

"Let's see if I hit it," Kessler said before squeezing out his last card, which he didn't look at before betting.

Hennigan: {7-}{9-}{10-}{7-} / {a-}{2-}{4-}
Kessler: {4-}{j-}{7-}{3-} / {a-}{3-}{7-}

Kessler wound up with a J-7-4-3-A low, but it was no good as Hennigan made a 9-7-4-2-A.

Burr with the Better Straight

Level 19

Omaha 8

Frank Kassela limped from early position and Melissa Burr came along from the small blind. Brandon Shack-Harris then checked his option from the big and three players saw a flop of {j-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}. Burr bet, Shack-Harris raised, and Kassela got out of the way.

Burr made the call and then check-called a bet on the {K-Hearts} turn. When the {Q-Spades} completed the board on the river, Burr led out and Shack-Harris called.

Burr tabled the {a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{6-Spades}{5-Hearts} for an ace-high straight, which bested Shack-Harris' {9-Hearts}{8-Spades}{x-}{x-} straight.

Scott Seiver Eliminated in 9th Place ($115,447)

Level 19
Scott Seiver - 9th Place
Scott Seiver - 9th Place

Razz

Scott Seiver: {x-}{x-} / {6-}{4-}{4-}{q-} / {x-}
Abe Mosseri: {x-}{x-} / {k-}{3-}{a-}{4-} / {x-}

After doubling up twice in Omaha eight-or-bettor, Seiver completed with a six in razz after Mosseri brought it in with a king. Mosseri called, then called a bet on fourth street.

Mosseri made a better board on fifth, Seiver paired, and the former tossed out a bet. Seiver called. Seiver was forced to fold on sixth when he was dealt a {q-}, however, leaving himself with around 90,000 chips.

Pot-Limit Omaha

The rest of Seiver's stack went in the middle against his good friend Brandon Shack-Harris in PLO, and the hands were opened:

Seiver: {q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{6-Spades}{4-Spades}
Shack-Harris: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}{10-Clubs}{8-Hearts}

The 2014 WSOP bracelet winner and Player of the Year contender eliminated Seiver as the board came {3-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{2-Spades}, and we are now down to an unofficial final table of eight.

Kassela Calls as Fast as He Can

Level 19

No-Limit Hold'em

Chun Lei Zhou raised to 47,000 from the cutoff and Allen Kessler called from the button. Jesse Martin and Frank Kassela then called from the small and big blinds respectively and four players took a flop of {5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{2-Clubs}. Martin checked, Kassela bet 90,000, and Zhou called. The other two players folded and then Kassela fired out 165,000 on the {7-Hearts} turn. Zhou called and then bet 375,000 when Kassela checked the {J-Clubs} river.

Kassela snap-called as fast as could be with the {k-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for a pair of fives, and it was good as Zhou mucked his cards.

James Obst Eliminated in 10th Place ($115,447)

Level 19
James Obst - 10th Place
James Obst - 10th Place

No-Limit Hold'em

James Obst opened for 50,000 and was met by a three-bet to 135,000 from Allen Kessler in the small blind. The big folded, Obst called, and it was heads-up action to the {k-Hearts}{j-Spades}{6-Clubs} flop. Kessler quickly continued for 175,000, and Obst paused for a few moments before making the call.

When the {2-Spades} appeared on the turn, Kessler announced that he was all in for 710,000. Obst, who only had 610,000 or so, hit the tank for a solid six minutes. He seem pained by the decision and his lips could be seen moving as if he were talking it over with himself. Eventually he whispered, "Call."

Kessler: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}
Obst: {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

Both players had flopped top pair, but of course Kessler's kicker had him out in front. Obst began to get out of his seat and watched helplessly as the useless {Q-Diamonds} blanked on the river. Obst will take home $115,447 for his tenth-place finish.

Seiver on Life Support

Level 19

Omaha 8

Scott Seiver raied to 80,000 from the cutoff and Melissa Burr called from the small blind. Burr then check-called a bet on the {2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{8-Hearts} flop before leading out for 80,000 on the {6-Hearts} turn. Seiver called and then called another bet on the {4-Hearts} river.

Burr tabled the {a-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{2-Spades} for a flush and a low, both of which were good.
