"I Probably Should Have Checked"

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Phil Hellmuth -- possibly should have checked.
Phil Hellmuth -- possibly should have checked.

Phil Hellmuth made it 3,000 to go from the hijack and found a caller in Kevin MacPhee on the button. The flop came {J-Clubs}{7-Spades}{3-Spades} and Hellmuth fired a continuation bet of 5,000. MacPhee quickly released and Hellmuth won a small pot.

"I probably should've checked that flop," said Hellmuth as he restacked his chips. MacPhee gave nothing away except a wry smile.

Weisner Ousts Two

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Melanie Weisner is crushing early.
Melanie Weisner is crushing early.

Melanie Weisner bet a board of {9-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{3-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} out of the big blind, and her lone opponent thought for a bit before shoving all in. Weisner snap-called, tabling {q-Spades}{8-Clubs} for a straight, and her opponent was dead in the water with {a-}{10-}.

The next hand, she open-shipped from the small blind, and Sorel Mizzi called it off in the big.

Mizzi: {a-Spades}{5-Clubs}
Weisner: {j-Clubs}{8-Spades}

Weisner took a big lead when she flopped a pair on {8-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}, and Mizzi's calls for an ace went unheeded on the {6-Diamonds} turn and {10-Clubs} river.

Tran indicated she had the winner and showed {a-Spades}{6-Spades} for two pair.

Andy Spears Mercier

Level 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Jason Mercier, in the big blind, checked to an under-the-gun Andy Spears on a {8-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} flop. Spears checked behind and the dealer placed the {10-Spades} onto the turn.

Mercier checked again and then called when Spears bet 2,800. The river was the {4-Hearts} and Mercier checked once more. Spears bet 6,300 and Mercier, who looked a little bemused as to what Spears could have, called.

Spears showed {Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} for the straight and Mercier's cards hit the muck.

Level 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Niall Farrell's day hasn't got off to the best of starts; he was down to six big blinds at one stage. Farrell now has 30 big blinds after three-betting all-in for 14,000 after Sorel Mizzi had opened the betting. Mizzi called to put Farrell at risk.

Marafioti Doubles

Level 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

After Matt Davenport checked out of the small blind on an {8-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} flop, Matt Marafioti shoved all in for 11,600. A player behind the two folded, and Davenport thought for about a minute before making the call.

Marafioti: {k-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Davenport: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

Both had draws, but Davenport's current hand was best with ace-high. The {8-Diamonds} turn kept things clean for him, but a {9-Hearts} river caused Marafioti to give the table a forceful pat as he binked his flush.

"Very nice call, though," Marafioti said.

McLaughlin Doubles

Level 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Ami Barer raised to 2,000 from the cutoff and the button reraised to 4,500. Marc-Etienne McLaughlin four-bet to 14,500 from the big blind and Barer folded. The small blind then moved all-in and McLaughlin called.

McLaughlin: {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}
Big Blind: {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}

"Interesting," said Selbst when the hole cards were revealed.

The big blind's pocket threes held until the river of the {2-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{7-Spades}{2-Clubs}{A-Clubs} board, the ace on the river winning the pot for McLaughlin and catapulting him to 100,000 chips.
