Day 1 Started
On the latest episode of the PokerNews Podcast, Jeff Platt and Chad Holloway come to you from the 2021 World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino
They bring you up to speed on all the big stories and winners from the series including recent GGPoker Ambassador Jason Koon getting the bracelet money off his back and a former WSOP Main Event champ claiming the Mixed Game Festival $30,000 Platinum Pass.
They also chat about early champs bolstered by behind-the-scenes interviews with winners including Koon, Ari Engel, and Yuval Bronshtein. Plus, they chat with online crusher Henri 'buttonclickr' Puustinen, who is considered one of the best heads-up players in the world.
Flip & Gos, the poker format made popular on GGPoker, makes its live debut at the World Series of Poker today in Event #20: $1,000 Flip & Go No-Limit Hold'em.
The idea is simple. All players were automatically all in and dealt three cards. They were allowed to discard one on the flop. Whoever made the best hand at the table advanced to the restart at 7 p.m. PST.
For more 154 lucky players, the event will begin to feel like a normal tournament from here on out. They will begin with 160,000 chips and blinds at 1,000-2,000, with a 2,000 big blind ante. The schedule calls for 12 30-minute levels to be played today, with a 20-minute break after every four levels.
Several players took more than one shot at making it through. Daniel Negreanu finally qualified on his ninth try. But even that was dwarfed by 2004 Main Event runner-up David Williams, who took 19 tries before finally winning his table.
