Buckley Doubles, Mercier Busts

Level 18 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Stud Hi-Lo

DJ Buckley got his remaining chips in with {2-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and was against the {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} of Mike Matusow. While Matusow two-paired {q-Clubs}{6-Spades}{j-Spades}, Buckley ran out {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-}, giving him a lock low and a freeroll if he could find a deuce or a five. He turned over the {5-Hearts} for a straight and took the whole pot, with Matusow's river being a useless third pair.

At another table Jason Mercier lost the last of his chips.

Matusow is Now 80% to Win the Tournament

Level 18 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Scotty Nguyen
Scotty Nguyen

Stud

Matusow: {x-}{x-} / {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{9-Hearts} / {x-}
Scotty Nguyen: {x-}{x-} / {J-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{6-Hearts} / {x-}

With the {J-Hearts} up Nguyen completed. Matusow called.

On fourth, Nguyen check-called a bet from Matusow. On fifth, Nguyen took the betting lead and led out. Matusow called this time.

Sixth street came and Matusow took control of the betting lead, and he bet with his pair of nines up. Nguyen called. Both players checked on seventh.

Matusow showed {6-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{2-Spades} for two pair. Nguyen flashed a pair of kings, but it was no good and the pot was pushed to Nguyen.

"This guy is 80% to win the tournament now," Matthew Schrieber said about Matusow's double up. "He said if he doubles, he's going to win the tournament."

"You motherf@#$ers couldn't bust me when I had 4,500 chips!" Matusow said. "What are you going to do now that I have 130,000."

Honig's Aces No Good

Level 17 : 6,000/12,000, 1,500 ante

Omaha Hi-Lo

Matthew Honig bet the turn and river as the board ran out {10-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} against Ryan Hughes, who was on the button. Hughes thought about 30 seconds after the last bet but decided to call, and Honig announced aces, which were no good against {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}{q-Spades}{10-Spades}, good for kings up.

Vornicu Quarters Makarov

Level 17 : 6,000/12,000, 1,500 ante

Omaha Hi-Lo

After a raise and a call preflop, Valentin Vornicu faced off against Alexey Makarov, with Vornicu on the button and Makarov action from middle position.

The flop was {10-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and both players checked to see the {2-Clubs} on the turn.

Makarov checked to Vornicu and Vornicu bet. Makarov check-raised, and Vornicu called.

The river was the {7-Hearts} and Makarov bet. Vornicu called.

"Did you get there?" Vornicu asked. "You hit a flush?"

Makarov didn't respond, he just turned up {A-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{5-Spades}{7-Diamonds} for two pair and an ace three for the low.

Vornicu, however, showed {A-Spades}{3-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} for the same low and three four for a straight. That earned him three-quarters of the pot. As he was bringing in the chips, and the players were explaining how the pot should be split up, the dealer pushed the pot over to Vornicu. Yong Wang, who was to Vornicu's left, reached for the pot.

"This belongs to me, right?" Wang said. Everyone laughed, and Vornicu quickly stacked the chips.

Arieh's Two Pair Gets the Better of Miller

Level 17 : 6,000/12,000, 1,500 ante

Stud

Miller: {x-}{x-} / {Q-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts} / {x-}
Arieh: {x-}{x-} / {4-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{K-Spades} / {x-}

As Mike Matusow wandered through the tournament area bellowing a rendition of "Home on the Range," Josh Arieh and Ryan Miller got involved in a pot.

Miller completed and found a call from Josh Arieh. Both players checked down fourth and fifth street, but on sixth, Arieh finally bet. Miller called. He called another bet on seventh as well, but mucked when Arieh showed {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{4-Diamonds} for two pair that came on seventh.

Miller was left with a short stack and was eliminated just a few hands later.

Himes showed {k-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{4-Hearts} for two pair and took the pot.

Makarov and Deeb Exchange Words

Level 17 : 6,000/12,000, 1,500 ante
Shaun Deeb
Shaun Deeb

Stud Hi-Lo

Shaun Deeb, Alex Livingston and Alexey Makarov played a big pot where Livingston bet sixth street and Makarov raised after some time, leaving Deeb staring at two bets.

Deeb: {x-}{x-}/{3-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{j-Spades}
Livingston: {x-}{x-}/{3-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}
Makarov: {x-}{x-}/{2-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{k-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

Deeb stood up and shook his head, deciding to fold. Livingston reraised and Makarov called, then called a dark bet on seventh. The two chopped the pot with Livingston showing a low and Makarov a pair of eights for high. Deeb grabbed the next card off the deck and peeked at it, and Makarov took exception, referencing an earlier incident where Makarov had said something in Russian to Nikolay Fal during a hand.

"You kidding me?" Deeb said. "Speaking Russian is way worse than rabbit hunting. Don't even compare the two."

Nguyen Gets Some Back From Schreiber

Level 17 : 6,000/12,000, 1,500 ante

Omaha Hi-Lo

With bets already in front of both players from every street, Scotty Nguyen and Matthew Schreiber were heads up again. The board was {J-Clubs}{5-Spades}{J-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and Schrieber checked it over to Nguyen. Nguyen put out a bet and Schrieber went into the tank and thought for about a minute before tossing in a call.

"Queens baby," Scotty said, turning up {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{10-Spades}.

"That's good," Schrieber said, checking his hand one more time before throwing it away.

"So did you like that flop Scotty?" a player at the table asked Nguyen.

"No I like when he checked the turn better," Nguyen replied.

Chop For Chop and Davidow

Level 17 : 6,000/12,000, 1,500 ante

Omaha Hi-Lo

Josh Arieh opened from the hijack. Matthew Davidow made it three bets from the button. Dmitry Chop called from the small blind. Arieh called the raise as well.

On the {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} flop, action checked over to Davidow, who bet. Only Chop called.

On the {7-Spades} turn, Chop checked over to Davidow, who bet again. The river was the {J-Clubs} and Chop check-called a third bet from Davidow.

Davidow showed {A-Clubs}{3-Spades}{4-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} for a flush and ace three for a low. Chop showed {A-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{9-Clubs} for a better low and the two chopped up some of Arieh's money as well as the blinds and antes.
