Jorgenson is Depressed

I've just come back from the press conference with the players. Not many people knew a conference was going to happen, so not many questions with substance were asked. Theo Jorgenson, however, lifted the mood (and maybe dropped his own) when asked:

What is it like to be oldest player at the table??

"Depressing"

Have you ever gone deep in a WSOP event before?

"Yes, that was also depressing"

Cheer up Theo, they are giving out free muffins in the players lounge.

Massuese Trouble

Aye carumba!
Aye carumba!
Nope, the masseuses aren't heckling the players or streaking in their panties, although that would be a pleasant experience, but they are having trouble finding custom today, predominantly because they aren't allowed in front of the camera to massage the players.

Also, only the back row of the crowd if available to them, because if they were to work in between rows, then they would inevitably get in the way of the people seated behind. If it was me, however, I certainly wouldn't be complaining about the view.

I'm a charitable chap, so if it's still slow by the break, I shall offer my body and its muscular physique. I've showered and everything!

Early Nerves?

Playing at a featured TV table is much different that sitting at a normal poker table. There's much more going on that can distract players such as the roving cameras, the bright lights, or the intimidating audience. Some players get nervous by the prospects of playing on TV or showing their cards to the hole cams.

Playing at the final table of the WSOPE can even be more nerve-racking. Scandinavians are known for keeping their cool at the tables. But deep down inside, I'm sure that everyone is a little bit rattled. After all, they are playing for £1,000,000 and a bracelet.

If I had to give an edge to any of the final table players, it has to be Theo Jorgensen. Not only is he the oldest player at the table (at a whopping 35 years young), he has experience playing in big events. He made the final TV table of the EPT Scandinavian Open at the Casino Copenhagen, in his hometown of Copenhagen. He took 4th place there. He also made the final table at the WSOP in Las Vegas this summer for the $5,000 World Championship Seven Card Stud. He took 5th in that event. His final table featured Phil Ivey, Ted Lawson, Marco Traniello and eventual winner Chris Reslock.

Jorgensen has played with the big boys. He doesn't have the biggest stack, but his experience and maturity gives him an extra edge.

Hand #4 - Oyvind Riisem

James Keys would have had the button in seat 9.

John raises under the gun. Raise to 45k

Oyvind calls in the big blind.

{A-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} Check to John who bets 75,000. Oyvind raises 125,000 more and takes it down.

They Came, They Drank, They Cheered a Bit and They Went Home

What James Keys lacked in chips he made up for support. From day 3 his buddies were at every rail, getting hammered and chanting every check, call, bet or fold he did. At times they were a wee bit too rowdy but for the most part it was very good natured and added a nice extra dimension to the tournament.

Today as predicted, they sat down, started drinking, cheered their man, he pushed all in and now they are all on their way home.

The £60,000 won by Keys may seem great, but he really needed to come at least 3rd to cover their bar tab.

Hand #5 - Magnus Persson

Johannes Korsar has the button in Seat 1. Dominic Kay raises to 32,000, Magnus Persson calls, Korsar calls, and John Tabatabai calls from the small blind. The flop is {Q-Hearts}{9-Spades}{3-Clubs}. Action is checked around. The turn is the {5-Spades}. Tabatabai bet 105,000, Kay folds, Persson raises to 330,000, Tabatabai folds and Persson wins the pot.

Hand #6 - John Tabatabai

Oyvind Riisem has the button in Seat 2. Dominic Kay limps in from UTG, John Tabatabai raises to 56,000 from the small blind, and Kay makes the call. The flop is {K-Spades}{9-Spades}{7-Hearts} and both players check. The turn is the {4-Diamonds} and both check again. The river is the {7-Spades} and both check a third time. Tabatabai shows pocket tens, Kay mucks, and Tabatabai wins the pot.
