Day 5 Started

We Crown A Champion Today

Brandon Cantu vs. Jon Aguiar (Day 4)
Brandon Cantu vs. Jon Aguiar (Day 4)

Two days ago Brandon Cantu and Jonathan Aguiar played in the final heads up match of Event #5: €10,450 Mixed Max - No-Limit Hold'em. The duo battled on the felt for the better part of six hours and still no champion was found. All of that will change today.

Brandon Cantu began the match with the chip lead holding 1,770,000 to Aguiar's 1,110,500. Cantu jumped out to a clear lead but Aguiar was able to battle back and finally score a key double up roughly halfway through the match. Aguiar got it all in holding pocket eights on an {A-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} flop, but unfortunately was up against Cantu's {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} nut flush. The board paired on the river and gave Aguiar a full house to double up.

As the match wore on, Cantu was able to hit a surge and was able to overtake the chip lead once again. Cantu now leads the match with 1.52 million to Aguiar's 1.361 million.

The two will take their seats to finish the match in roughly twenty minutes. Be sure to stay tuned to PokerNews as we update you on the quest to find a winner.

Aguiar Draws First Blood

Jonathan Aguiar held the button. He made a raise to 40,000 and Brandon Cantu called.

The two saw an all-black flop of {5-Spades}{J-Spades}{4-Spades}. Cantu checked to the raiser and Aguiar bet 47,000. Cantu slid out a check-raise to 140,000 which caused Aguiar to go into the tank for about ninety seconds. Aguiar then three-bet the action to 140,000 and Cantu quickly let go of his cards.

With this pot the players have basically swapped chip stacks so now Aguiar has a slight lead.

Aguiar Wins Another; Needles Cantu

The spice in this contest from two days ago is still lingering today, and has the potential to travel right up the Scoville scale.

Jonathan Aguiar is pulling clear after the two played out a hand that made it all the way to showdown. Aguiar opened to 40,000 and Cantu called before both players checked the {2-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{7-Hearts} flop.

On the {a-Spades} turn Cantu led for 55,000 and Aguiar called to the {8-Spades} river. Cantu checked and tank-called a 135,000 after he muttered something about Phil Hellmuth.

Aguiar responded, "Did Hellmuth turn you into a calling station?" And opened {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for two-pair.

Cantu pointed out that Aguiar likes to hit rivers.

Aguiar On Fire

Brandon Cantu popped it up to 40,000 from the button. Jonathan Aguiar three-bet to 115,000 and Cantu called.

The {6-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} flop prompted Aguiar to continue for 115,000 and Cantu got rid of his cards.

"I'm not going to let you win," said Cantu. "Just so you know."

Aguiar did not reply as he scooped his chips and extended his chip lead.

Uh-Oh, Another Bad River For Cantu

Brandon Cantu is internally steaming right now after a brutal river saw him drop even further in chips.

Cantu opened to 40,000 and bet 50,000, 140,000 and 275,000 on a {8-Spades}{2-Hearts}{9-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} board.

Aguiar tank-called on the turn but snap called the river. Cantu quickly, and confidently, opened {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds} before he was destroyed by Aguiar slamming down {q-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for a rivered two-pair.

Brandon Cantu Eliminated in 2nd Place (€159,459)

Brandon Cantu - Second
Brandon Cantu - Second

Jonathan Aguiar opened to 40,000 from the button. Brandon Cantu three-bet all in for his last roughly 600,000. Aguiar snap called and the hands were revealed:

Aguiar: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}
Cantu: {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}

Aguiar sat with his hands clenched, looking up to the sky as the flop came. It was {8-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{A-Hearts} and Aguiar was able to take the lead by pairing his ace. The {3-Hearts} on the turn left Cantu with only two outs going to the river. It bricked out for him with the {7-Diamonds} and Cantu was forced to ship all of the chips to Aguiar.

Brandon Cantu will collect €159,459 for his second place finish.
