Bouncing Back

November Niner Michael Mizrachi is up from a low of 5,000 to the 19,000 chips he currently sits at. He was fortunate to knock out Frank Koopman and gather all his chips. The two got all the chips in on the turn with the board reading {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} and when Koopman made the call Mizrachi said "Seven, right?"

Koopman nodded and tabled {k-}{q-Hearts}{7-Spades}{k-Spades} for trip sevens. Mizrachi needed help with his {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} for two-pair and it duly came on the {a-Hearts} river.

Laaky Us

There are many bracelet winners in this field, but the most recent of them is one Phil Laak.

With his bracelet win only around an hour old, Laak and his broken arm have taken their seat in this tournament. He's on a slightly below average 13,300 and talking very fast at his table, which currently includes Andy Bloch, Tony Cousineau, Ross Boatman, Joe Serock and fellow six-max finalist Willie Tann. We'll let you know if he says anything particularly funny.

Stein Enjoys Lights of Broadway

We caught the very tail end of a three-way showdown on the Table Of Death.

Board: {j-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}

Frank Kassela: {7-Hearts}{4-Spades}{5-Clubs}{2-Hearts}
Samuel Stein: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}
Aarno Kivelio: had cards, but the dealer mucked them before we could scribble them down. Whatever he had, it was not enough to beat Stein.

Stein's Broadway straight by the end was good to scoop the pot, and he looks to be our chip leader after that, on around 40,000. Kassela was left with just his three lammers, and he cashed them all in at once meaning that he now has 12,000 in tournament chips. Kivelio will need some help if he's going to make back-to-back final tables - he's down to just 8,000 chips, half of them still in lammer form.

Last Chance Saloon

James Akenhead
James Akenhead

James Akenhead is down to his last lanner (4,000 chips) after losing out to fellow Full Tilt Pro Allen Cunningham. A pre-flop raising war broke out between these two and Barny Boatman but we reached the table too late to figure out how it went down. Boatman folded and both his opponent's groaned at how he could fold for the price he was getting.

The flop came {q-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and Akenhead moved all-in. Call. Akenhead tabled {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} but was behind to Cunningham's {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{3-Spades}. The {8-Hearts} turn and {5-Spades} river failed to change anything and the American scooped in the pot to move back to his 15,000 starting stack.

Steep Drop for Montgomery

Some set-over-set sadness for Scott Montgomery as he saw a {6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{j-Hearts} flop. Erik Seidel may have checked or may have bet small; either way Montgomery bet 2,000, Seidel raised pot, Montgomery put him in, Seidel called and they were on their backs.

Montgomery: {6-Hearts}{6-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}
Seidel: {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}5h]

Turn: {4-Spades}

River: {a-Diamonds}

Seidel is now off the starting block on 17,000. Montgomery meanwhile cashed in one of his two remaining lammers, and will have to content himself with 8,000 total for the moment.

Alfonso Far So Good

And Barny Boatman, mainly, is on the negative end of Alfonso Amendola's chip gain. A big bet into a big pot just now sent Amendola into the tank for a while, in full bridge-of-nose rubbing mode on the river of a {6-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{2-Spades}...{5-Hearts} board. The pot of 3,200 was enough to accommodate Boatman's move in for 2,800 on the river, and this was what Amendola was giving some thought. During the pause, Boatman actually threw over his 4k rebuy lammer at the dealer (gently) - who knows if Amendola took this into account when he called, finally, showing just {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds} and sort of flicking the other two cards face down.

Boatman shook his head and mucked, receiving his rebuy, but not before double checking the full winning hand. The others were {8-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and Boatman muttered something like, "That's what I thought...on the flop," or similar before returning attention to the next hand rather than dwelling on the last.

Busted in a Mannerly Way

"Gentleman" Ben Roberts is up to 16,000 after taking care of an unnamed Finnish opponent. There was a raise from UTG that our Finnish friend called along with Neil Channing and Ben Roberts in the BB. The flop was checked around so the board read {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{3-Diamonds} at the turn. The Finn led for 300 only to face a raise to 1,025 by Roberts. Both other players had ducked out of the way before ther Finn decided to commit the few extra chips he had.

Roberts made the automatic call and his {q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{7-Spades} was in good shape against his opponent's {a-Hearts}{3-Spades}{10-Spades}{j-Hearts}. The board failed to pair-up and the level of eliminations is starting to increase now.

Unusually Early Exit

Nikolay Evdakov
Nikolay Evdakov

Russian Nikolay Evdakov picked up the nickname "The Roach" at the WSOP a couple of years back after amassing a record ten cashes. Opponents found it near impossible to "kill" him off. This record hasn't helped him tonight though as he's one of our earliest bust-outs.

He and two opponents saw a {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} flop and when O. Kristoffersen led for 2,000 the Russain moved all-in after some thought. The third party folded but Kristoffersen made a quick call. Showdown:

Evdakov: {a-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{10-Spades} for top pair and second nut flush draw.
Kristoffersen: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{10-Spades}{4-Clubs} for top set.

The {5-Hearts} turn ended the hand as it filled up Kristoffersen.
