The 2021 Wynn Winter Classic is nearing the conclusion of its two-week 10-event series, which kicked off on December 6.

The series culminates with the $5,300 buy-in, $2,000,000 GTD Championship from December 17-20. There will be two starting flights starting with Day 1a at Noon on Friday, December 17 with Day 1b taking place at the same time on Saturday, December 18. The surviving players from each flight will then return at Noon on Sunday, December 19 for Day 2 action. It’s at that point PokerNews will pick up live updates onward to the Day 3 finale, which will play out on Monday, December 20.

Friday's Day 1a flight attracted 283 entries, which contributed $1,392,360 towards the prize pool. At the end of play, 67 players remained with Scott Drobes and his stack of 500,500 leading the way. Rounding out the top five big stacks from 1a were Barry Hutter (436,500), Isaac Baron (406,000), Brian Altman (376,500), and Ali Imsirovic (345,000).

Others to advance were Mitchell Halverson (298,500), Michael Gathy (287,000), Joao Simao (279,500), Katie Lindsay (213,000), Pavel Plesuv (205,000), Ryan Riess (202,000), Femi Fashakin (188,500), Faraz Jaka (151,500), Chris Brewer (121,000), Dominik Nitsche (108,000), and Jason Sommerville (98,000).

On Saturday, 389 entrants took to the felt with 115 of them making it through to Day 2. Leading the pack with 729,500 was Tommy Tran followed by Michael Brinkenhoff (373,500), Christopher Frank (367,000), George Wan (320,000), and Justin Zaki (315,000), who round out the top five.

Others to make it through included Brek Schutten (313,000), Hal Rotholz (233,500), Alex Foxen (223,500), Boris Kolev (215,000), Joseph Cheong (207,000), Sean Winter (182,000), David Jackson (170,000), Vanessa Kade (160,000), and Shannon Shorr (152,000).
