Event 13 - $2,500 No Limit Hold'em

Day 1 Completed

Play Ends for the Night

Day One of Event 13 wraps up with about 180 players remaining out of 1,088 that entered the tournament. Phil Ivey is still in contention to claim back to back bracelets, ending the night with a healthy stack of 63,000. However, several players were able to eclipse the 100,000 mark to climb to the top of the leader board. A full chip count and seating list will be posted later tonight.

With 117 players to make the money, the bubble should be reached within the first few hours of play tomorrow. A finish in the money will guarantee a payday of $4,929, but players looking past a min-cash will have a $506,786 first place goal in mind.

Join us tomorrow at 2pm PDT to follow all the action as it unfolds at Pokernews.com

A Monster Shove

A player opens the pot from middle position for 3,000 and Moto Mabuchi reraises to 45,000 from the button.

The blinds fold, and with 15,000 behind the original raiser's cards also go into the muck.

Mabuchi shows pocket queens.

Under 200

In the closing level of play tonight, the field has dipped below the 200 mark. About 198 players remain with under a half an hour to go. We won't reach the money tonight, but will probably burst the bubble before the first break tomorrow.

Steaming After a Bad Laydown

On a board of {6-?} {6-?} {5-?} {10-?} {3-?} and with about 30,000 in the pot the big blind leads out for 12,000 and Nikolay Evdakov calls from under the gun.

Action moves to the player on the cut off who goes into the tank. For more than four full minutes it appears as if the decision is causing him in physical pain. Finally, a player at the table calls the clock.

With the added pressure of the floor staff counting down in his ear he lays down {J-?} {J-?} face up on the table.

The big blind shows pocket eights while Evdakov tables {A-?} {10-?} for tens and sixes.

The player that had the clock called on him storms out of the room, upset at his laydown. The rest of the table shares a laugh at his expense as play moves on.

Steve Dannenmann Moves up to 58,000

The pot is opened from early position to 2,300 and a player in late position reraises all in for 10,000 more. Steve Dannenmann comes over the top for all his chips from the small blind and the other player gets out of the way.

Dannenmann: {A-Diamonds} {K-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Hearts} {Q-Spades}

The board comes {6-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} {9-Spades} giving Dannenmann a pair of kings and the pot. He eliminates his opponent and moves up to 58,000.
