Day 2 Completed

Goodbye, Day 2

Huber is the uber-stack
Huber is the uber-stack
Even by EPT standards, today has been pretty brutal.

In seven 75-minute levels we have lost 360 of the 484 players who started Day 2 - almost three quarters of the field - and got ourselves well into the money which started at 144th place.

Countless notable folks have fallen by the wayside today - Thierry van den Berg, Jeff Sarwer, Noah Boeken, Florian Langmann, Barny Boatman, Antoine Saout and Vicky Coren were all among the hapless hordes who failed to make the money.

Once the bubble had burst, those big names just kept on busting. George Danzer, Max Pescatori and Tobias Reinkemeier all earned themselves a min-cash but won't be coming back tomorrow.

Nevertheless it's looking to be a pretty star-studded Day 3. Still in the running on big chip stacks are Team PokerStars Pros Jude Ainsworth and Johannes Strassmann on 720,500 and 794,500 respectively. Also still in, albeit on slightly more modest stacks, are William Thorson, Julian Thew, Marcel Luske and Joao Barbosa.

Leading the field, though, is young Swiss national Stefan Huber. After a late surge, he finished up on 1,087,500 - the only player yet to have broken the million chip mark.

Whatever happens tomorrow, it promises to be very, very exciting. 124 players remain and there is literally everything to play for. Official chip counts will magically appear overnight, and we will back here at noon CET to bring you all the crazy action direct from the cardroom floor.

Chartier Goes From Eight Big Blinds to Fifty

Sam Chartier finished out the day on a rush
Sam Chartier finished out the day on a rush
On one of the last hands of the night, a player raised it up to 12,500 from early position and then Sam Chartier called from late position. The two players saw a flop come {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}{7-Spades}. The original preflop raiser made it 18,500 to go and Chartier flatted.

The turn added the {A-Diamonds} to the board and the first player checked. Chartier took a minute before betting 32,000. His opponent called rather quickly.

The {A-Hearts} fell on the river and now the board contained two pair, aces and nines. The straight and flush draws that were out there on the flop failed to get there and the first player checked. Chartier tanked for a few minutes while most of the other tables in the room were bagging and tagging. Eventually, he fired a bet of 30,000. His opponent quickly called again.

Chartier tabled the {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for a full house, nines full of aces, after flopping three nines. His opponent mucked with a disgusted look on his face and the pot went the Canadian's way. Charter has gone from grinding on the short stack to bagging up just under 300,000 chips at 296,500. The last quarter of the final level saw Chartier hit a crazy rush to go from having under eight big blinds to finishing with what will be just under 50 big blinds to start the day tomorrow.

Things Not Over for Pescatori

Max Pescatori from Day 1b
Max Pescatori from Day 1b
Max Pescatori moved all in for his last 1,500 after anteing 500 of it on the hand following the one where Sam Chartier crippled him with aces. The small blind and big blind were also in the hand, seeing the flop for the minimum amount needed.

The flop came down {K-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{3-Spades} and the two blinds checked. The turn was the {8-Diamonds} and the small blind bet 5,000. The big blind called. The river was the {6-Spades} and the small blind checked. The big blind fired 12,000 and the small blind folded.

"Show a bluff!" yelled out Pescatori, but his opponent in the big blind had made a pair with his {A-Spades}{10-Hearts}. Pescatori was able to stick around though, when he rolled over the {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades} for a better pair. He got back up to 8,500 on this hand.

Reinkemeier Busto

Tobias Reinkemeier ran his jacks into Ilya Gorodetskiy's aces, risking his last 92,500. The {10-Spades} {9-Hearts} {8-Clubs} flop gave him quite a sweat, but running sixes sent him home with a min-cash. Gorodetskiy began the bubble dance with less than 100,000 but has built himself to 350,000 in the last hour and a half.

Chartier Rides the Rush

Max Pescatori raised from middle position to 13,000. Sam Chartier was fresh off his double up with pocket jacks when he moved all in for a total bet of 80,000 chips. After a minute or two in the tank, Pescatori made the call.

Chartier tabled the mother of all hands -- {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}. Pescatori held the {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} and even his suits were dominated.

The board ran out {Q-Spades}{2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} and Chartier was able to fully double up again to 172,000 this time. This was a nice rush for Chartier once they all hit the money. Pescatori was nearly busted, but did have 2,000 chips left to show for it.

Chartier Doubles Up

On one of the first hands after the bubble burst, Sam Chartier moved all in for 35,500 over the top of an under-the-gun raise to 16,000. Chartier was in the small blind and tabled the {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades}. His opponent made the call with the {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}.

The board was clean for Chartier, as it ran out {Q-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{6-Clubs} and he doubled up to 80,500.
