Closing Time

Day 2 of the 2010 Aussie Millions Main Event is in the books. The remaining players from all three Day 1 flights met in the same room (well, same two rooms, if you count Studio 3) for the first time today.

Pierre Aoukar came into the day with the chip lead, but it was David Frieling who closed out the day atop the leaderboard with over 500,000 in chips as your unofficial chip leader. Not far behind him are Dan Shak, winner of the $100,000 challenge; Gus Hansen, winner of the 2007 Aussie Millions Main Event and Betfair's Sorel Mizzi.

In all, the 2010 version of the Aussie Millions attracted 746 entrants, bringing the total prize pool to $7.46 million AUD, with first place taking home $2 million AUD.

Of the 294 hopefuls who started Day 2, about 80 of them remain. We'll have the official numbers posted as soon as they are released by tournament staff.

Quite a few pros made it to day two, but made early exits, including Erick Lindgren, Tony G, WSOP last woman standing Leo Margets, Joe Hachem, Dan Harrington, James Akenhead and Mark Vos.

Two Big Stacks Collide

Preflop on the button, Sorel Mizzi made it 8,000 before Chad Wiedenhoeft in the small blind made it 12,000.

Mizzi made the call and the flop came down . Wiedenhoeft made a bet of 13,000 which Mizzi called.

The two checked the turn.

On the river, Wiedenhoeft made a bet of 36,500 and was called by Mizzi.

Wiedenhoeft said, "I have a king," and just showed the . Mizzi said, "I have an ace," and tabled the and scooped up the pot.

Mizzi is now sitting on 360,000 and Wiedenhoeft is down to 480,000.

Our Second Half-Mill Stack

Pierre Aoukar is now half way to a million when one of his opponents raised to 11,000 and saw Aoukar reraise to 42,000. His opponent moved all in and Aoukar made the call. Aoukar showed the and his opponent . The flop, turn and river were good enough to win Aoukar the pot and get his stack right to the 500,000 mark.

Frieling Wins Monster

David Frieling raised from the cutoff seat and John Lomardo called on the button. The flop came down and Frieling checked. Lomardo fired 30,000 and then Frieling raised to 100,000. Lomardo went all in for 200,000 and Lomardo called.

The turn was the and the river the to keep Frieling in the led and give him the massive pot. He's up to 535,000 chips and has taken over the chip lead. Lomardo was sent packing.

The TD's up here in Studio 3 have announced there will be four more hands played tonight.

How Much Are They Playing For?

One table in front of our PokerNews setup in Studio 3 has become a magnet for the cameras.

Featuring Ben Delaney, Jessica Dawley, Steve Topakas and Adam Cusenza among others the players seem to be having a great time together. Chatting, laughing, smiling; it's like a good ol' fashion home game out there. The only difference? The winner of this game takes home $2 million AUD.

Smith Sucks Out Again

Robert Engel raised to 9,000 UTG and Elliot Smith reraised to 22,000 from the button. Engel moved all in for 60,000 and Elliot made the call.

The board was dealt and Smith would catch the cards he needed to give him an unlikely win.

Smith, who is the sole survivor from last years Aussie Millions Main Event final table said "sorry, I run good in this tourney," before stacking up about 240,000 in chips.

If At First You Don't Succeed....

We've been watching Jurgen Wenigwieser for a little while now and while we've been there, he's opened three times and each of those times, he's been three-bet only to fold.

The fourth time must have been the lucky one, because it was folded around and Wenigwieser picked up a round of blinds and antes.

Shak and Hansen Square Off

From under the gun, Dan Shak made it 10,000 to go and found a caller in Gus Hansen.

The flop brought the and the which prompted both players to check.

On the turn, Hansen made a bet of 14,000 and was called.

The river was checked by both players and Shak showed aces and Hansen threw his cards in the muck.
