The action was opened by Brendon Rubie to 650 from early position. The player on the button made the call, along with both players in the blinds.
All four players checked as the flop was dealt and the would hit the turn. This time the play would be checked to Rubie and he would bet 1,700. The button folded and the small blind player made the call, while the big blind also got out of the way.
The completed the board on the river and the play would again be checked to Rubie. A bet of 2,550 from Rubie would be called by his opponent.
When Rubie turned over his , it was enough to send his opponent's card into the muck as Rubie now sits behind a much healthier stack than earlier.

When we came to Dan Kelly's table there was a flop showing and Kelly was in the hand against one opponent.
Kelly's opponent checked to Kelly who bet 1,800. A call from the player and the would be dealt on the turn. The play was again checked to Kelly who would continue his aggression with a bet of 2,600. Kelly's opponent went into the tank and then let his cards go as Kelly raked in another pot.
We wandered past Tom Grigg's table and noticed a huge chip stack on the left of Grigg. His name is Andrew Li and he will be one to watch this evening.

"I hadn't played a hand in like four hours and then you come, and boom!" said Octavian Veogele to our PokerNews reporter as this hand played out.
It was pretty simple really, Voegele was down to under 7,000 and got his stack all in preflop holding . It was up against for Voegele and he would take the double-up as the board ran out .

Another big stack has emerged late into Day 1a. This players name is Nabil Edgtton and that may sound familiar to some as he was one half of the champions who won the teams event just a few nights ago here at ANZPT Sydney. A quick spot of research tells us he also won the 6-handed event for around $16,350 at the Star Poker Summer Series in 2011.

Jonathan Karamalikis had a great start to Day 1a of the ANZPT Sydney Main Event, making his way up the chip leader board very early into the evening. He then lost a massive flip with against and now it has all come to an end as the last two hands of his night have happened in quick succession.
It all started when we came to Karamalikis' table with a flop showing . He was in the hand against David Allan who led out for 1,400. Karamalikis then put in 10,000 - which left him with 250 behind. Allan made the call and then the two players checked it down as the turn fell the and the river hit the .
Allan tabled , while Karamalikis' went straight into the muck.
The very next hand and Karamalikis would commit his last 250 in chips. That would come to no avail though, as his was no match for the of an opponent.
