Small Blind and Big Blind Battles

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Folded around to Jonathan Bredin on the button and he opened it up to 16,000. Colin Carpenter then shoved his short stack in the middle from the small blind. Raj Ramakrishnan quickly re-shoved from the big blind and Brabin folded.

Carpenter was all in for 58,000 holding{a-Clubs}{a-Spades} and was coming up against Ramakrishnan’s {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}. The {4-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{k-Spades} board was safe for Carpenter as the short stack at the table doubled up.

Lee Acting Up a Storm on the River

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Chiu Yeung Lee has just collected one of his first pots of this final table and, as has become standard for Lee, there were plenty of theatrics associated with it.

The pot wasn’t huge as Jonathan Bredin raised preflop, bet 15,000 on the flop before both players checked the turn to see the board read {q-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{6-Spades}. This is where things got rather silly.

Lee was first to act and he appeared to love the attention, sitting in the tank for a good three minutes. Maybe even longer. He cut down his chips several times, threw up a few smiles and even waved at Bredin in a rather awkward moment.

Eventually Lee threw out 20,000 and Bredin quickly looked it up with {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} for ace-high, but it was all Hollywood by Lee as he opened {9-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for trip nines.

Lucky Double for Dan

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Daniel Neilson was looking like he was going to be the next player eliminated when he had his short stack all in preflop holding {j-Spades}{j-Clubs} against the {q-Clubs}{q-Spades} of Raj Ramakrishnan. Then the {j-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{5-Clubs} flop was spread on the felt and Neilson was looking great. The {7-Hearts} turn and the {10-Clubs} river was safe for Neilson as he took the double off Ramakrishnan to stay alive.

JP Takes Some off the Leader

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Jon-Pierre Narbey opened with a raise to 17,000 but Jonathan Bredin continued his aggression with a three-bet to 40,000. Narbey called and the flop landed {j-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{k-Clubs}.

Narbey checked it over to Bredin who bet 38,000. Narbey deliberated before making the call before both checked the {10-Hearts} turn. The river brought a repeat {10-Clubs} and Narbey led out for 48,000. Bredin instantly gave it up as Narbey takes some chips from the chip leader.

Narbey Crushes Neilson with the Nuts

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Ricky Kroesen opened with a raise to 16,000 with both Daniel Neilson and Jon-Pierre Narbey making the call. The trio saw a flop of {j-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and Kroesen followed up for 23,000. Neilson made the call but Narbey upped the price to 50,000. Kroesen got out of the way but Neilson called again to see the {3-Hearts} hit the turn.

Neilson checked and Narbey checked behind as the {7-Diamonds} completed the board. Neilson led out with a small bet of 40,000 but after several minutes of deliberation, Narbey responded with another raise, this time to 100,000. Neilson wasn’t thrilled but he made the call, only to muck when Narbey showed {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} for the stone-cold nuts.

Narbey is now flying with 650,000 as Neilson is now back on the short stack with just 65,000.

Folded around to Daniel Neilson on the button and he would move his stack of 49,000 in the middle. Daniel Laidlaw was in the small blind and shoved his stack of around 170,000 in the middle, forcing Jon Pierre Narbey out of the hand.

Neilson: {j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Laidlaw: {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}

It was a race situation for Neilson to stay alive. The {j-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop was spread on the felt and Neilson had found the cards he needed. Then a {8-Spades} hit the turn to give Laidlaw the lead and with no help for Neilson on hte {5-Diamonds} river, he was sent home in 8th place.

For that effort Neilson collected NZ$12,750.
