Set Over Set

Paul Kyle was on the wrong end of that one
Paul Kyle was on the wrong end of that one
Paul Kyle just lost about two thirds of his stack when he got it in set over set holding the lower one. The flop was {Q-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} and Kyle held {8-Spades} {8-Hearts}. His opponent held pocket queens, {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts}.

There was still an eight left and Kyle pleaded for it to come, but when the turn and river were the {3-Spades} and the {9-Diamonds}, Kyle was left with only 9,500 chips left.

Nelson's Roller Coaster

We pick up Lee Nelson once again involved in a big pot. With all five community cards out, the board shows {8-Spades} {J-Clubs} {J-Spades} {Q-Clubs} {2-Hearts}. Nelson's opponent, Tony Yalden, moves all in, having Nelson well-covered. With most of Lee's chips already in the pot, he appears in some agony at the decision in front of him.

After several minutes in the tank, Nelson decides the fold is the right play, and he uncaps his cards and slides them into the muck. He lost the majority of his chips on the hand, and has plummeted back down to 4,900.

Jacks Hold for Nelson

Lee "Final Table" Nelson
Lee "Final Table" Nelson
Lee Nelson called an all in bet from an opponent at his table. Nelson held pocket jacks, {J-Diamonds} {J-Spades} and was racing with his opponent's {A-Clubs} {K-Clubs}. Nelson stood up and asked if his hand could hold up finally.

The board ran out {Q-Hearts} {8-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {6-Spades} {5-Spades} and Nelson shook the hand of the opponent he eliminated. He is now up to 17,000 chips.

Chasing the Leader

With multi-way action in front, the player on the button moved all in for about 6,000 chips. Mark Erickson gave him action, while the rest of the table got out of the way.

The at-risk player tabled {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} and seemed content to race for his tournament life with Erickson's {6-Hearts} {6-Clubs}.

Much to Erickson's delight, the flop came {8-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {8-Spades}, giving him a near-lock on the hand with a full house. The turn was the {4-Hearts}, and a meaningless {A-Spades} hit the river, spelling the end for yet another player. Erickson, meanwhile, has climbed up to 45,000, good enough for second place in the room.

Presto! For Lommer

From early position, a player came in for a limp, and action passed around to Lee Nelson. He put in a raise, making it 900 to go. A few seats down the line, Sebastian Lommer moved all in for his last 2,900 chips. The limper made the call, and the decision was back to Nelson. Without much delay, he moved all in, having both his opponents covered. After much deliberation, the limper ducked out, and it was heads up, Lommer at risk for his tournament life.

Nelson: {A-Spades} {K-Spades}
Lommer: {5-Spades} {5-Clubs}

The board ran out {8-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} {10-Spades} {4-Clubs}, saving Lommer from elimination and tripling him up to 9,000. Nelson has slipped back to 10,900.

Huang Busts Another

Huang is the chip leader so far
Huang is the chip leader so far
Bryan Huang raised on the button and then Brooke Howard-Smith reraised from the small blind. Everyone else folded and Huang then stuck a giant stack of chips into the middle to put Smith all in. After tanking for a while, Smith finally made the call.

Smith {Q-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds}
Huang {6-Clubs} {6-Hearts}

"I was just trying to push you around," said Huang.

The dealer ran the board out, {3-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} and that was it for Smith. The six on the turn did him in. Huang felt bad about the beat and kept apologizing. As SKYCITY's poker ambassador, Smith said "Don't feel bad, they put me in for free." This got a laugh from Huang and he felt a little better about it.

Huang is now up over 58,000.

Khoury Gone, But All Smiles

Paul Khoury
Paul Khoury
Just before the break, Paul Khoury was knocked out of the field.

On the flop, the board read {J-?} {10-?} {2-?}, and Khoury check-called a bet from his opponent.

The turn brought a repeat {J-?}, and Khoury moved all in for about 4,000 chips. His opponent tanked for several moments before putting in the call, showing down {Q-?} {Q-?}. Khoury held {8-?} {10-?}, and failed to improve on the river, sending him to the rail with a smile.
