Here Comes Day 2

The beautiful APPT models
The beautiful APPT models

Welcome back to Day 2 of the largest-ever Asia Pacific Poker Tour event in history, the 2011 PokerStars.net APPT Macau Main Event! This event eclipsed the mark set by Season 1's APPT Sydney Grand Final of 561 players with 575 players in the field.

There are 304 players returning to action here on Day 2 and it's set to be a great day of poker. None of the returning players are bigger than the one and only Phil Ivey, who has made his return to the live tournament felt here in this event. He'll come into Day 2 with 51,200 in chips.

Team PokerStars is also well represented here on Day 2 with Bryan Huang, Nacho Barbero, Raymond Wu, Vivian Im, Randy Lew, Alex Kravchenko and Mickey Petersen all coming back. Huang sits third overall in chips with 154,100. Fellow Team Pros Maxim Lykov and Celina Lin were eliminated on Day 1b yesterday.

Last year's champion, Victorino Torres, is still alive and enters Day 2 with 47,000 in chips. He'll be looking to continue his quest for back-to-back titles. The 2007 champion of this event, Dinh Le, is also still alive with 64,800, but the 2008 champion Eddy Sabat fell in the final hands of the night on Day 1b.

Due to capacity issues, Tables 1-25 will begin at 12:10 PM local time. Tables 26-31 will begin slightly later at 12:30 PM. Click here to view the Day 2 Table and Seat Draw.

After a scramble to get the first round of players in their seats, the cards are in the air and play is underway!

Currently there are players at Tables 1-25 taking to the felt. They will play until 12.30 p.m., whereby Tables 26-31 will then take to their seats before the two rounds of tables join and we get underway as usual here on Day 2

Early Slip for Nacho

Team PokerStars Pro Nacho Barbero started the day with 108,300, but has been knocked back a bit after losing an early hand.

There was roughly 25,000 chips in the middle on the final board of {K-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{3-Spades}{5-Clubs}. Xiang Pan was first to act and thought for a bit before firing out 13,000. Barbero made the call, but couldn't beat Pan's {A-Spades}{K-Clubs} and mucked his hand.

Willcocks Working Early

Phillip Willcocks has managed to pick up some much needed chips early and we caught the action on a recent hand which shows Willcocks' weaving some aggression.

The action was started by Dinh Le who opened the pot to 2,800. the player to his left called before the play was on Willcocks in the hijack seat. After only a short moments time, Willcocks popped it to 7,000 and the play was sent back around to the original aggressor. Le thought for a few moments before making the call, while the player to his left sent his cards into the muck.

Flop: {2-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{j-Spades}

Le checked to Willcocks who didn't hesitate as he bet 9,000. Le did not look comfortable as he tried to make his decision. Eventually Le decided to let his hand go, flinging {10-Clubs}{10-Spades} onto the felt and sending the pot to Willcocks.

Leonard Out

Stephen Leonard raised all in for 9,200 from middle position. Play folded over to Othonas Katakis in the cutoff seat and he made the call. On the button was Xiao Ming Liang and he tanked for a bit before reraising to 22,300. Play folded back to Katakis and he tank-called to see the flop.

The flop came down {K-Spades}{J-Spades}{J-Clubs} and Katakis checked. Liang moved all in for around 35,000. Katakis folded. Liang tabled the {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} and Leonard held the {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}.

The turn was the {2-Diamonds} and river the {Q-Hearts}. Both failed to give Leonard what he needed and he was eliminated from play.

The turn was the {10-Hearts} and Pan checked. Barbero checked behind to see the {2-Clubs} land on the river. Pan checked and Barbero fired 14,200. Pan called.

Huang Hurting Early

Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang has just seen a huge dent in his stack after getting unlucky in the following hand.

According to players at the table, Huang 4-bet preflop holding {a-}{k-} and received the call from one opponent who held {j-Hearts}{10-Spades}.

The flop showed {a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{4-Spades} and this is when Huang's opponent shoved all in and Huang made the call. Huang was looking good to take down the big pot and become the chipleader but ,alas, it wasn't meant to be as the {4-Hearts} on the turn came before the {10-Clubs} on the river gave Huang's opponent a third ten.
