Jonathan Depa Leads as 25 Cashers Advance from Day 3

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Jonathan Depa
Jonathan Depa

On Thursday, the 2013 PokerStars.net Asia-Pacific Poker Tour Macau Asia Championship of Poker (ACOP) HK$100,000 Main Event continued with Day 3 action at the PokerStars LIVE at the City of Dreams. Just 72 of the original 203 players returned for six 90-minute levels of play, during which time the money was reached at the top 25. While all of the remaining players are guaranteed a minimum HKD $198,000 payday, Jonathan Depa and his stack of 662,000 are best positioned to make a run at the HKD $4,752,000 first-place prize.

Throughout the day, 47 players would hit the rail empty handed. One of the first to go was Michael Tureniec, who fell in Level 10 (600/1,200/100). It happened when Yuanji Dai opened for 2,600 from early position only to have Tureniec three-bet to 5,800 from middle position. Action folded back to Dai, he called, and the flop came down {k-Spades}{6-Hearts}{9-Clubs}. Dai was first to act and checked, which inspired Tureniec to bet 4,400. Dai then sprung to life with a check-raise to 10,400, and Tureniec moved all in for 20,500 total. Dai called and discovered he was in dire straits.

Tureniec: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Dai: {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}

The {J-Diamonds} turn was of no consequence, and all Tureniec needed to do was dodge a seven on the river to stay alive. "Seven," Dai requested, and right on cue the dealer burned and put out the {7-Clubs}.

"Wow," another player at the table said. Tureniec's face dropped a bit, but he remained silent. He slowly took off his sunglasses, packed them up, and then took his leave.

While Tureniec was clearly miserable, he soon had company on the rail. Billy “The Croc” Argyros, Yujung Choi, Anson Yan Shing Tsang, Jack Salter, Dennis Huntly, Mervin Chan, David Ewing, and Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov all fell over the next few hours.

Katchalov was just one of three Team PokerStars Pros returning for Day 3, but he ended up being the first to go after two bad experiences with pocket kings.

Eugene KatchalovRan pretty sour today, first lost KK to JT then KK to JJ to bust...both on the river :(. Time to regroup then High roller in couple days

From there, Akira Ohyama, Andy Chan, Ioannis Apostolidis, Liang Shi, Vladimir Troyanovskiy, and Yang Xi.

The last hand of the day also saw the money bubble burst, but if you want to read more about that you’ll have to click here.

While dozens of players fell, some familiar names are still in contention for the title. They include PokerStars Team Online’s Randy Lew and Naoya Kihara; Day 2 chip leader Kevin Schulz; World Series of Poker bracelet winner and APPT Seoul champ Aaron Lim; and European Poker Tour Season 9 Player of the Year Jan Bendik.

The final 25 players will look to play down to the final table of nine on Friday. Action will get underway at 3 p.m. local time, so join the PokerNews Live Reporting team then for all the live updates from PokerStars LIVE at the City of Dreams. Until then, check out Sarah Grant's special Halloween video from Macau. It’s spooky scary:

Martirosyan Bubbles

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
David Martirosyan
David Martirosyan

Jonathan Depa opened to 6,000 from under the gun and both Kevin Schulz and Yat Wai Cheng called before David Martirosyan moved all in for 55,500. Depa and Schulz folded, but Cheng made the call.

Martirosyan: {A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}
Cheng: {2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}

The flop of {9-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} changed little, but the {10-Spades} on the turn gave Martirosyan outs to a straight along with his ace and jack. Unfortunately for the Russian, the river landed the {K-Spades} sending Martirosyan to the rail as the remaining 25 players were now in the money with a guaranteed HK$198,000.

The Day 1 Chip Leader Sent Home Shy of a Cash

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Keith Ferrera
Keith Ferrera

Action folded around to Peter Ping San Chan in the cutoff and he put in a raise to 4,000. After the button folded, Keith Ferrera, who you might recall as the Day 1 overall chip leader, announced that he was all in for his last 33,000. The big blind folded and Chan thought for a few moments before making the call.

Ferrera: {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}
Chan: {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs}

Ferrera got it in good, but his lead was short lived as the {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} flop hit Chan hard. Ferrera was suddenly in need of a seven to extend his tournament life, but it wasn't in the cards as the {2-Diamonds} appeared on the turn followed by the {Q-Clubs} on the river.

Lew Doubles

Level 11 : 700/1,400, 200 ante
Randy Lew
Randy Lew

The action folded round to Darian Tan in the small blind and he raised to 7,700 with Randy Lew defending his big blind.

Tan continued for 8,700 on the {6-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{2-Spades} flop before Lew moved all in for 57,600. Tan re-checked his hole cards and then made the call.

Lew: {8-Spades}{7-Spades}
Tan: {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}

With Lew drawing to a spade or nine, the {Q-Spades} on the turn would see him lock the double as the {6-Clubs} completed the board on the river. As Lew moved to 130,000, Tan was left with just 10,000 in chips.

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 100 ante
Billy Argyros
Billy Argyros

From middle position Billy Argyros opened to 2,800 only to have Hao Tian three-bet to 6,900 next to act. With the action on Chenxiang Miao on the button, he four-bet to 10,500 before Argyros moved all in for 41,200. Both Tian and Miao made the call as the dealer dropped a {10-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} flop. Tian moved all in for roughly 26,400 and Miao instantly called.

Agyros: {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}
Tian: {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}
Miao: {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

The turn and river landed the {8-Clubs} and {5-Spades} and both Argyros and Tian were headed to the rail as Miao moves to 215,000 in chips.

2013 PokerStars.net APPT Macau ACOP Main Event Day 3: Show Me the Money

Welcome back to the 2013 PokerStars.net Asia-Pacific Poker Tour Macau Asia Championship of Poker (ACOP) HK$100,000 Main Event. What began with 203 players earlier this week is down to the final 72 players, 25 of which will make the money. There’s a good chance the tournament reaches that point here on Day 3.

The man best positioned to run deep here at the PokerStars LIVE at the City of Dreams is Kevin Schulz, who finished as the chip leader last night with 311,600. Schulz vaulted into the chip lead in the last level of the night thanks to two hands. In the first, he flopped a set of deuces to win a massive pot worth more than 200,000. Then, about ten minutes later, he flopped another set of deuces to eliminate 2011 World Series of Poker Player of the Year Ben Lamb.

While his sizable chip advantage gives him a good chance of making the money, Schulz will have some tough competition to contend with including Jonathan Depa (254,200), Tore Lukashaugen (157,600), Day 1 chip leader Keith Ferrera (122,800), David Ewing (100,600), Keith Gipson (78,500), Jan Bendik (78,300), Tom "hitthehole" Middleton (45,100), Mervin Chan (37,300), and Michael Tureniec (22,300). In addition, Eugene Katchalov, Randy Lew and Naoya Kihara of Team PokerStars will return to action.

Cards will be back in the air at 3 p.m. local. The PokerNews Live Reporting team will be on hand to bring you live updates from PokerStars LIVE at the City of Dreams. Stay tuned for those, but in the meantime check out Sarah Grant’s entertaining interview with Kitty Kuo (who fell late on Day 2):
