Day 1A Started
Throughout the years the Crown Poker Room has played host to the biggest events in the history of poker in Australia. Over the last few years a big part of that history has been the Asia Pacific Poker Tour.
Now, on Season 7 of the tour, we are back to play the APPT Melbourne Main Event for the third time. Two years ago it was Australian Poker Hall of Fame member Leo Boxell who won APPT Melbourne, while affable Brit Sam Razavi lifted the trophy last year. In the aforementioned events the buy-in was $5,000, which has now been reduced to $3,000 - all this will mean is more qualifiers, more players and a very juicy prize pool.
Who will join Boxell and Razavi as the next champion?
There’s only one way to find out and that’s to stay tuned to PokerNews over the next few days as we bring you all the live coverage of the APPT Melbourne Main Event! The first of two Day 1 flights begins at 6.10pm AEST sharp!
Level: 1
Blinds: 50/100
Ante: 0
The cards are in the air here on Day 1a of the APPT Melbourne Main Event!
The players start with 30,000 in chips and will play seven 60-minute levels on Day 1. There will be a quick break after two levels and the surviving players will be out the door a little before 2am local time.
Today is the first of two Day 1 flights, with Day 1b set for tomorrow, Day 2 will play out on Saturday, Day 3 on Sunday and the eventual final table on Monday.
Let's go see who is at the tables!

We arrived at the table to find Oliver Gill fire out a bet of 3,100 on a board showing . Current ANZPT Player of the Year leader Iori Yogo was also in the hand, and made the call. The completed the board, and Gill quickly threw out another bet of 4,000 which sent Yogo into the tank.
A minute passed before Yogo mucked his hand, relinquishing the pot to Gill.

With the board reading , Fabian Craib threw out a bet of 6,500. His lone opponent in the hand made the call as both watched the fall on the river. Craib paused for a moment, before firing out 11,000. His opponent made the call but quickly mucked when Craib tabled his for a flopped set.

There are currently 10 tables set up here on Day 1a of the APPT Melbourne Main Event. That means the current field is under 100 players. This may be due to the fact there was a $1,650 NLHE Six-Max event beginning today. We still expect quite a few late entries and a hefty field for tomorrow's Day 1 action.
In addition to the notable names we have already mentioned, there are a few more very familiar faces amongst the tables.
First we have Australian Poker Hall of Fame member Gary Benson. A career spanning decades has seen Benson amass well over $1 million in tournament winnings, which includes victory in an Aussie Millions event earlier this year.
Then we have Joe Cabret, a Crown Poker local who finished 2nd for a cool $1 million in this year's Aussie Millions Main Event.
Jarred Graham is also at the tables. Graham is back in his home town after winning a gold bracelet in a $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo event at this year's World Series of Poker.
Prominent Aussie Grant Levy is also at the tables. Levy is no stranger to the Asia Pacific Poker Tour, winning APPT Sydney back in 2007 to claim Australia's first seven-figure poker tournament score. Levy also happens to have a very lengthy poker resume which sees him sit in the top 10 all-time Australian money earners.
Also at the felt is Andrew Hinrichsen. Back in 2011 Hinrichsen won a World Series of Poker Europe event, becoming one of only a handful of Aussies to call themselves a gold bracelet winner.

We arrived at the table just as Phillip Willcocks, Andrew Hinrichsen and Julian Powell all checked a flop. The turn produced the as Willcocks checked his option. Hinrichsen threw out a bet of 800 which was too much for Powell to call. Willcocks then raised it up to 3,100 and was called a minute later. The completed the board, and Willcocks checked. Hinrichsen thought for a minute before throwing out 3,800 which was enough to take down the pot.
