Well folks that’s a wrap from us for day 1a of Event #1: $1,100 buy-in No Limit Hold’em of the 2009 Aussie Millions Poker Championship.

The day was action-packed with many players looking to accumulate chips and go deep, or bust out and avail themselves to playing some of the higher buy-in events on the card.

Some big names came to the felt today including Annette “Annette_15” Obrestad, Sam Khouiss, Mel Judah, Michael Vartan, Shane Dye, Emad Tahtouh, Harry Demetriou, David Saab, Sam Khouiss, Jame Pickering, Peter Aristidou, Leo Boxell, Michael "Sticky" Guttman, Antonio Casale, Brendan Fevola, Tony Hachem, and Sam Youssef.

54 players have safely progressed into day 2 including Jamie Pickering, Graeme Putt, David Saab and a host of other hopefuls, along with chip leaders David Griffiths, Christian Heich and Rodney Snider.

Be sure to join us tomorrow from 12:30pm local time for the second day one flight, and again on Sunday as we decide the first champion of the 2009 Aussie Millions from Crown Casino in Melbourne.

Two More Hands

The dealers have been instructed to complete the hand they are on, and then deal only two more hands. At that point we'll be bagging, tagging and heading for the bar.

Recent Casualties

Sean Keeton was recently eliminated after pushing his short stack into the middle with {Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} with Michael Harrison-Ford making the call holding {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. The board bricked out {7-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs}{8-Spades} to send Keeton to the exit.

Meanwhile Mike Ivin was all in holding {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades} and racing against the {J-Spades}{10-Hearts} of Gary Cleaver. Ivin looked set to double when the first four community cards landed {3-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{8-Clubs} however the {9-Diamonds} on the river completed the straight for Cleaver to eliminate Ivin from the tournament.

Mark Salkanovic Eliminated

We joined the hand with a three way all in situation. Mark Salkanovic was the shortest of the three players, all in holding {A-Spades}{j-Hearts}. Also all in for his stack was Graeme "KiwiG" Putt, but he was in reasonably good shape with {K-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}. Covering both was a third player holding {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}.

The board of {7-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{6-Spades} was kind to Putt, giving him the triple up. Salaknovic on the other hand headed for the rail after failing to improve.

"KiwiG" now has a nice little 74,000 chip stack in front of him.

Yoon Busts

Daren Yoon Eliminated

Scott Peters moved all in preflop for his last 9,100 and Naz Sibaei made the call. The action was then with Daren Yoon who moved all in for his final 11,700. Sibaei called again as a three-way all in unfolded!

Peters showed {A-Spades}{10-Clubs}, which was bettered by Sibaei's {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts} but both trailed Yoon's {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}. However, not for long.

The board fell {10-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{4-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{5-Clubs} giving Peters an unlikely triple up, to leave Yoon crippled.

A few moments later, Yoon committed his final chips with {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} but couldn't improve against an opponent's pocket tens to be sent to the rail late on Day 1a.

Programming Adjustment

With just 56 players remaining in the Day 1a flight, the tournament staff have elected not to play Level 12 today. This decision was made because the numbers of registrants for tomorrow's Day 1b field have not yet been confirmed and the staff do not want to risk playing down too far today.

That means we'll be done for the day in about twenty minutes.

Naz Sibaei Rolling, Andrew Demetriou Railing

Naz Sibaei's opponents are ruing giving him chips. He's now rolling and firmly entrenched on his table as the table captain. Sibaei's most recent conquest was the elimination of Andrew Demetriou.

A short stacked Demetriou moved in for 4,700 from the small blind, after it folded round to him and Sibaei snap called from the big blind. Demetriou tabled {A-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and Sibaei rolled over {7-Spades}{9-Hearts}.

Demetriou may have been in front, but it wouldn't last long. With the {9-Clubs} as the door card, Sibaei hit the front and didn't look back as the board ran out {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}.

Demetriou is our latest elimination, while Sibaei is among our leaders at the moment, sitting on around 80,000.

Griffiths First to 100K

With play headed towards the far reaches of Day 1a, David Griffiths is the first player to break the six-figure mark. He raised to 3,600 from early position and was called by Dan Mulgraw. Griffiths fired out for 7,000 on a flop of {9-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {J-Spades}. Mulgraw called that bet, then called another 10,000 after the turn came {K-Spades}. When the river fell {9-Hearts}, both players checked. Griffiths showed {A-Hearts} {A-Clubs} for a full house, nines full of aces. That was the winner.

Griffiths now has 107,000 chips. Mulgraw slipped back to 46,000.
