JJProdigy in the House

One of the highest profile international visitors in today's field is Josh "JJProdigy" Field.

Field made a name for himself in the live poker scene soon after his 18th birthday at last year's Aussie Millions. Field is still too young to play in the United States, but has been a regular face on the European tour. After putting his controversial online past behind him, he'll be looking for a big Aussie Millions campaign and a big live result down under.

Interesting Table Formations

There is an interesting mix of Australian poker players on the secondary feature table.

Mitchell Carle and Jimmy Siu are seated on each side of the dealer, while Kenny Ng and Angie Italiano are seated next to one another in the seven and eight seats.

Helena Wong and Michelle Freedman are two local female players among the crowd today. Though it may be a tough day for them as they have Michael Pedley and James Broom seated on their immediate left.

That Didn't Take Long

Andrew Oataway has already doubled up. He got his 5,000 chip starting stack into the middle of the table holding {K-Clubs} {K-Spades}. Another player decided to gamble with Oataway, moving in his own 5,000 chips with {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds}. The case king hit the turn on a board of {7-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {K-Hearts} {6-Clubs}, making an unbeatable full house for Oataway. Just like that, Oataway doubled up to 10,000 chips.

Horowitz Starts Well

A raise to 275 was called by Jethro Horowitz, as well as three other players, who took to a flop of {K-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}.

The action was checked twice before a player took a stab at the pot for 600. Horowitz then announced a raise to 2,500, which forced a fold from the rest of the table.

Horowitz is off to a good start with nearly 10,000 in chips.

Marc Des Anges Takes Early Exit

Western Classic Main Event winner Marc Des Anges has taken an early exit from today's tournament.

On a board reading {A-Spades}{J-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{3-Spades}, Des Anges's opponent moved all-in having Des Anges covered by a couple of big blinds. After some deliberation, Des Anges made the call tabling {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}. His two pair, however, would be no good against his opponent's better two pair holding {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}.

The Crown Poker Room is Buzzing

There is a huge queue of people currently waiting at the registration booth with today's field set to be a big one. We're about ten minutes away from the scheduled start time, and the Crown Poker Room is buzzing with excitement as Day 1b is set to get under way shortly.

Rewind the Clock -- It's Day 1b!

Welcome back to the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia where the 2009 Aussie Millions Poker Championships are underway. 342 runners turned up yesterday for Day 1a of Event #1, AUD 1,100 No-Limit Hold'em. That pushed the prize pool almost three-quarters of the way to the AUD 500,000 guarantee.

Today is Saturday in this corner of the world. As a result, we're expecting an even larger turn-out for Day 1b. If that prediction holds, first place in this event will be north of AUD 200,000. That may not be life-changing money, but it's sure to put a huge smile on the face of the eventual winner.

Play kicks off at 12:30pm local time, which is in about forty minutes. PokerNews will have all the action. Join us!
