Event 10 - $5,300 Heads Up Championship

Day 1a Completed

That's a Wrap

Closing in on nearly ten hours of play, we have reached the conclusion of Day 1a Event #10: $5,300 Heads Up Championship.

It was a day of quick duels and marathon matches, but in the end it would be South African Jarred Solomon and American Alec 'Traheho' Torelli advancing through to the semi-finals to be played on Thursday.

Graeme 'KiwiG' Putt and Stefan Jedlicka didn't go home empty handed in their quarter final bouts, with each taking home an estimated AU$20,000, depending on if the remaining few seats in tomorrow's flight sell out.

Make sure to join us tomorrow from 2:30pm local time, where day 1b will be brought live to you from PokerNews. With Erik Seidel, Chris Ferguson, Jason Gray, Eddy Sabat, Alexander Kostritsyn (again) and a handful of others expected to play, it will be an exciting day of poker for all!

On a flop of {4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}, Graeme Putt led out for 1,800 and Jarred Solomon made the call on the button.

The turn fell the {J-Clubs}, and Putt moved all in with Solomon double-fist-pump-snap calling and slamming down {K-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}. Putt, resigned to his fate, flipped over {A-Spades}{6-Hearts} to be behind to a two-outer.

Unlike Solomon, Putt missed a third six when the river fell the {5-Hearts}, launching Solomon and his entourage, that included Matt Vengrin and John Tabatabai, into excited celebrations.

With Putt out in 7th place, Solomon progresses through to the semi-finals, along with Alec Torelli to be played on Thursday.

Solomon Finds Two-Outer to Stay Alive

Graeme Putt limped the button for 300 and Jarred Solomon raised to 1,100 total. The flop fell down {K-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{2-Spades} and Solomon led out for 1,100, with Putt making the call.

The turn fell the {5-Spades}, and Solomon checked before Putt moved all in. Solomon near instant-shipped his 5,150 total and asked Putt if he had the king. Putt shook his head and tabled {10-Spades}{9-Clubs}, which was in great shape to Solomon's {6-Hearts}{6-Spades}.

The crowd went wild when the river landed the {6-Clubs}, making Solomon a set and sending Putt down to 5,300. Solomon soared to a three-to-one advantage.

Solomon Struggling

Jarred Solomon hasn't taken a forward step following his loss to Graeme Putt. Most recently, following a Putt limp, he bumped it to 700 and Putt made the call.

Action was checked to the turn, where Solomon bet out 600 with the board reading {6-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{10-Spades}{K-Diamonds}. Putt made the call. The river landed the {Q-Hearts} and Solomon checked-called 600 to see Putt table {K-Clubs}{7-Hearts}.

"How did I let you get there," said Solomon as he mucked his cards, now sitting on 6,000 chips.

Tie Breaker Time

Catching the action on the flop of {A-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} with around 2,500 in the middle, Jarred Solomon led out for 850 and Graeme Putt made the call.

The river landed the {J-Diamonds}, and Putt slid a stack of white 500 chips into the pot, and following some deliberation, Solomon made the call. Putt tabled {A-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for top pair and Solomon mucked, signaling the end of his unbeaten run in heads up play at the Aussie Millions.

Putt and Solomon are now in their third and deciding match with both of them looking worse for wear.

KiwiG Turns Solomon For Double

Jarred Solomon opened to 500 from the button and Graeme Putt made the call.

On a flop of {Q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}, Putt check-called 650 before the {J-Hearts} landed on the turn. Putt checked and Solomon made it 1,400 to go. Putt then moved all in for 5,600 total and Solomon stood up from his chair to study the situation.

Some friendly banter took place before Solomon made the call, tabling {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades} to be behind Putt's {J-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}. The river landed the {7-Diamonds}, which gave Putt the double-up to take the chip advantage as play in this tournament ticked into its eleventh hour.

Solomon Our Next Champion?

Jarred Solomon has just confirmed that he has yet to lose a match today. Is Solomon on a hot streak, or is he just 'that good' following his victory in the H.O.R.S.E event earlier this week.

Only time will tell as Solomon and Putt continue to battle it out with it bing a fairly evenly matched at the moment.
