Chips Fly Between Ellis and Szabo

Level 15 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Zoltan Szabo and Ray Ellis were heads up on a flop of {a-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{q-Hearts}. Ellis led out for 60,000, Szabo called, and the turn brought the {3-Diamonds}.

Ellis tanked for nearly two minutes, then fired another 60,000. Szabo quickly called.

The river was a third diamond - the {k-Diamonds} - and the second the card hit the felt, Ellis slid out a tower of yellow T5,000 chips. Szabo opted not to call the 100,000-chip bet, and tossed his cards into the muck.

Ellis raked in the pot, and now sits with just under 600,000 chips. Szabo slipped to 220,000.

Laying Down the Laidlaw

Level 15 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

With around 100,000 already pulled in the middle and a board reading {Q-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{5-Clubs}, Phares Bouya bet 40,000 from the big blind and received a call from Daniel Laidlaw in the under-the-gun position. The former player then thought for about a minute before checking the {K-Spades} river, and the methodical Laidlaw slowly slid out a bet of 68,000. It was enough to get the job done as Bouya glanced up at the clock and then folded his hand.

Aces + Kings = Chop

Level 15 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Michael Harrison Ford opened to 10,000 in middle position, David Boyaciyan three-bet to 22,000 from the big blind, and Ford moved all in for around 80,000. Boyaciyan snapped it off.

Ford: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Boyaciyan: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}

Ford was out of his seat before the flop fell {3-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}, and was five steps away from the table by the time the {2-Diamonds} turned.

When the {6-Clubs} completed the board, giving both players the same straight, he was three table-lengths away. When Ford heard the good news, he returned with a grin on his face.

Boyaciyan could only laugh with his friends on the rail.

Krost Finds a Double

Level 15 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Nazih Sibaei opened to 12,500 from early position, 2010 Aussie Millions Main Event champion Tyron Krost three-bet shoved for 44,000 in middle position, and the action folded bck to Sibaei, who called.

Sibaei: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Krost: {a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

Krost flopped a flush draw when the dealer fanned {k-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}. The {10-Hearts} on the turn was a very interesting card. It gave Krost his flush, but Sibaei could still make the best hand and eliminated Krost if the board paired on the river.

The {7-Diamonds} did not pair the board however, and Krost secured the double up.

Getting Stuck on the Lam Tram

Level 15 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Tony Da Costa Silva was a bit late to the tournament today as he is staying off property and his tram got stuck on the way to the Crown. Talk about a stressful situation.

In a recent hand, Man Hei Lam opened for 11,000 from the hijack and Da Costa Silva called from the small blind. The latter then check-called bets of 15,500 and 35,500 on the {9-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} flop and {5-Clubs} turn respectively, and then both players checked the {4-Diamonds} river. Hei Lam revealed the {9-Spades}{8-Spades} for flop trips, and it was good as Da Costa Silva sent his cards to the muck.

Adams Doubles Through Obst

Level 15 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

"All in and call!" the dealer on Table 25 shouted.

When we rushed to the table, we saw that the board was completed {j-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{2-Clubs}. Brandon Adams had {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades} sitting in front of him, and James Obst's cards were already in the muck. Adams' all-in river bet was for 176,500, but the entire pot was worth 600,000 chips.

After the hand, Obst dipped down to 780,000 chips.

15:00 Update: Lynn Gilmartin caught Adams tableside to discuss his thoughts throughout this hand:

Szabo's Kings Cracked by Five-Four

Level 15 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Jan Collado (Day 2) makes a miraculous straight
Jan Collado (Day 2) makes a miraculous straight

Elliot Smith opened in late position, Jan Collado three-bet to 25,800 from the small blind, and Zoltan Szabo cold four-bet shoved for around 95,000 from the big blind. Smith folded, and Collado asked the dealer to pull the bets in. She did, and Collado announced, "Call."

Collado: {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}
Szabo: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}

Szabo was in great shape, and according to the PokerNews Odds Calculator, he was a 94.85 percent favorite to double after the flop fell {q-Spades}{3-Spades}{3-Hearts}.

Those odds dipped to 86.36 percent when the {2-Spades} turned, and when the {6-Hearts} spiked on the river, they plummeted to zero.

Szabo hit the rail two spots off of the money, while Collado's stack increased to around 500,000. We are now on the exact bubble, and the tables are playing hand for hand.

Carlton Doubles on the Bubble

Level 15 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

David Boyaciyan opened for 11,000 from the hijack only to have Adam Carlton three-bet to 23,000 from the cutoff. The button and both blinds folded, Boyaciyan called and it was heads-up action to the {2-Spades}{3-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} flop. Boyaciyan proceeded to check-call a bet of 18,000, and then check-called another, this time 32,500, on the {A-Diamonds} turn.

When the {K-Spades} peeled off on the river, Boyaciyan checked for a third time and Carlton slid out his remaining 92,000. Boyaciyan counted out enough to make the call and then dropped it in, but he mucked just as soon as Carlton showed {5-Spades}{5-Hearts} for a straight.

Former Champion Krost Looking for First Cash Since Winning

Level 15 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Tyron Krost (Day 1b)
Tyron Krost (Day 1b)

Tyron Krost has a chance to finish in the money in the Aussie Millions Main Event for the first time since he won the event in 2010. How does that compare to deep runs of other former champions following their big win? Let's take a look.

Peter Costa was the first winner of the event in 2003, but has not cashed in the Aussie Millions Main Event since. Tony Bloom won the event in 2004, and he placed 43rd in 2006 for AU$12,540. Also in 2006, the 2005 champion Jamil Dia finished 39th for AU$12,540.

Lee Nelson conquered the 2006 Aussie Millions Main Event field for victory, and he has made two deep runs since. In 2007, Nelson placed 36th for AU$27,500. Then just last year, Nelson nearly made the final table, but fell in ninth place for AU$125,000.

Gus Hansen won the event in 2007 and placed 23rd in 2010 for AU$50,000.

Subsequent champions (Alexander Kostritsyn in 2008, Stewart Scott in 2009, Krost in 2010, David Gorr in 2011 and Oliver Speidel in 2012) have not cashed since.
