Interview with Andy Vajna

Varady Emese (from PokerNews Hungary) interviews Andy Vajna
Varady Emese (from PokerNews Hungary) interviews Andy Vajna
Varady Emese from PokerNews Hungary conducted a brief interview with Andy Vajna, famous film producer and owner of the Las Vegas Casino here in Budapest. Although the interview was done in Hungarian, luckily we had excerpts translated into English.

Vanja said that he very likes the feeling here. He enjoys poker and would like to play, but his skill level is not as good as the high caliber players on the EPT.

Vajna is very happy because of the amount of the entrants. They originally expected only 300 entrants, when in reality the event sold out! Vajna is especially happy because so many Hungarian players played in this event. That number is more than 70. Vajna hopes that there will be more poker tournaments in Hungary. He will be here until the end of the tournament.

Thorson Picks Up Another One

There was around 12,000 in the pot when I approached the table, an {A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} {5-Spades} flop out and 7,100 across the line in front of William Thorson as the Wall of Media looked on. His opponent was considering what to do, his cards in his hand, hovering over the felt but not quite able to let go. He was down to less than 10 seconds of his one-minute clock when he opted to pass {A-Clubs} {K-Clubs} face-up. Thorson flashed an enigmatic {A-Diamonds}.

Fewer Chips for Moorman

Chris Moorman is down to 8,500 following a curious hand. William Thorson bet out from the small blind on the {4-Hearts} {8-Spades} {2-Hearts} flop, and Moorman raised to around 5,000. A player on the button flat-called for almost half his stack -- leaving himself just 5,800 behind. Thorson passed.

The river came the {6-Diamonds} and Moorman dwelled up for a long time before checking. His opponent promptly moved all in, and Moorman went back to dwelling up, this time long enough to have the clock called on him. Eventually he folded.

Andy Vajna - Las Vegas Casino owner and Hollywood producer
Andy Vajna is the owner of the Las Vegas Casino in Budapest and stopped by to check up on the progress of the EPT Hungarian Open. Vajna is most famous for being a Hollywood film producer. I'm sure you have seen some of his flicks including several films of the "Rambo" and "Terminator" series. Vajna's filmography is massive. Some of the films he helped produce were... Basic Instinct 2 (2006), Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), The 13th Warrior (1999), Evita (1996), Nixon (1995), The Scarlet Letter (1995), Judge Dredd (1995), Die Hard: With a Vengeance (1995), Color of Night (1994), Renaissance Man (1994), Tombstone (1993), Jacob's Ladder (1990), Air America (1990), Total Recall (1990), Red Heat (1988), Rambo III (1988), Angel Heart (1987), Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985), First Blood (1982), and Victory (1981).

Three-Way All In Craziness!

A player found himself all in preflop with two callers, the two callers being Claudio Cecchi (who if you remember went deep at the EPT Barcelona) and Fabrice Soulier. They saw a flop.

Flop: {6-Spades} {3-Hearts} {5-Hearts}

Cecchi bet, Soulier raised him all in, and Cecchi called.

Opponent all in before the flop: {J-Clubs} {J-Spades} for an overpair
Cecchi: {K-Clubs} {K-Spades} for a better overpair
Soulier: {3-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} for two pair

Turn: {10-Clubs} -- Soulier still ahead
River: {5-Spades} and Cecchi makes a better two pair to take the pot.

The dealer was actually about to pass the chips to Soulier, but the sight of Soulier shaking and apparently cursing the heavens brought him to his senses and the 35,000 pot went to Cecchi. The preflop all-in player was out, and Soulier was down to just 6,500.

Play Changes To Nine-Handed

Although we started out this morning with 10 players to a table, we have just now turned nine-handed for the remainder of the day. When we come back tomorrow we will drop down again to eight-handed play, and there we will remain until the bitter end.
