So Quiet You Could Hear a Name Drop

Mark Teltscher is chatting on his table intermittently in traditional style. Just now in a gap between playing hands and tapping his chipstack on the table he was chatting to the German player on his right and I heard him say, "Do you know who Boris Becker is? I am a friend of Boris Becker."

There was a brief pause, and Mr. German-on-right said, "You met him at the poker table, right?"

Rare Sighting of Nocturnal Fox

UK player Stuart Fox has been a bit of a rarity on the circuit both nationally and internationally for a while, but that might work in his favour as the soft-spoken young player could easily be overlooked by his tablemates - at their cost. His finishes include a lot of US things like WSOP events and WPTs - top of which is probably his half a mil runner up finish in the 2007 WSOP $5k NLHE bracelet event.

Sitting calmly, with only half a face visible under his hat which I recognise from 2007, he took the loss of over 10k a little earlier fairly stoically. He'd seen a heads up flop of {4-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} which was checked to him, and he checked behind.

The turn was the {7-Clubs} and his opponent bet out 3,400. Slowly he reached a bit deeper, and threw out 9,000. Over to Player Two, who thought even longer, but threw in three yellow 5k chips on top! This was not the plan, evidently, for Fox gave up on the hand after a short consideration period.

Johnny Gets E-Lodden-ated

Sida Yuen raised to 1,500 and was flat-called by the player next to him. Johnny Lodden squeezed, pushing all-in for 10,500, Yuen called and a thought and the third player folded.

Yuen: {A-?} {J-?}
Lodden: {J-?} {J-?}

Unfortunately for the Norwegian, Yuen spiked the ace to knock him out and further increase his own stack to around 100,000.

Matusow Low

Matusow Lets Nines Go
Matusow Lets Nines Go
With about half his starting stack, Mike Matusow looks pretty focused on building it back; he's in pretty subdued form but that might be because there's no one on his table capable of being on the other end of the banter seesaw (or who wants to get on, maybe). So it's just grinding as usual for the Mouth.

Just now he looked interested in one pot preflop, which had been raised under the gun to 1,400. He'd called, and found the button reraising to 4,000. UTG decided he didn't mean it after all, but Matusow really gave it a think. He counted out his stack, looked at the 4k and about 14 total, and deliberated silently for a while. But he passed. "Nines," I'm pretty sure I heard him say, sotto voce.
