With 11,750 in the pot, Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst fired 7,900 on the river of a board causing her opponent Bryn Kenney to tank for several minutes before he eventually made the call.
Selbst mucked instantly and pointed out Kenney had to show his hand and he tabled . This however isn't the actual rule in EPT's, which is that if a player is called and mucks, the other player does not need to show a hand to win the pot. However, if a player calls the best and asks to see the opponent's hand, they then themselves must table a hand to win the pot.
This stops an advantage being given to players who bluff since otherwise they gain info about opponents who have made good calls. This rule can have critics though since it may make collusion more difficult to detect.
Over 15,000 in chips had made its way into the pot by the time we arrived on the river of the board. They would soon find their way into the stack of Chance Kornuth, as Mr. Kornuth bet out 11,500 from under the gun, and following a brief-ish pause his opponent - we believe one Quentin Krueger - folded.
There were a few envious glances around the table as Kornuth stacked up his chips - at 55,000, he is currently table captain.
David Gassian has just eliminated the unknown ten seat on his table, caling a river push with on a . His opponent had flipped and having seen he'd been outdrawn on the flop, left more disgusted than a Liverpool fan after the Northamption cup match.
Kevin MacPhee opened to 375 from UTG with Anton Wigg calling in middle position, the big blind called as well.
However any hope of action on the quickly dissipated when every street was checked down. MacPhee showed which was enough to win it all. The smallest pot MacPhee might win this tournament and probably the easiest.
When we found Ivan Demidov, the board read and there was around 7,000 in the pot. Demidov was on the button, and there was a 5,100 bet in front of him.
Across the table, Tristan Clemencon was huffing and puffing about his decision. Eventually he called - but mucked to Demidov's .
Clemencon dropped to 20,250 with that. The 2008 WSOP Main Event runner up is among our bigger stacks now, with 50,000.
We mentioned earlier that Liv Boeree is now officially the newest member of Team PokerStars, this news coming about six months after her epic win in the largest-ever EPT San Remo last season.
Boeree is on the docket to play tomorrow's Day 1b, but we just caught a peek of her in her shiny new Union Jack patch, wandering around the floor. Any time, really, is a good time to put a photo of Liv in the blog if we're honest. We'll have much more about her tomorrow when she takes to the felt.
Roland de Wolfe might have finalled the WSOPE last night, but last night's £278k score for 4th place means nothing right now as he's already here trying to become the first person to win a second EPT.
He's not had the best of starts though, down to 21,000 and just folded to a 6,500 bet on a board on the river.
Wow, as we head towards the first break the tables are really filling up, and there are more than a few faces we recognise.
Mr Jerry Buss, owner of the LA Lakers, has just taken his seat next to online monster Chris Moorman. Also at their table are Marc Goodwin and John Juanda.
Elsewhere an interesting table has emerged as Marcel Luske has seated himself at a table with Irish Open champion Neil Channing and WSOP $5,000 PLO bracelet winner Chance Kornuth. Banter overheard at that table: Kornuth, "Want a prop bet?"; Channing, "I can't win a hand."
