The Field Just Got Hotter

P.A.
P.A.
As the day goes on, the sun outside the Le Sporting Club here in Monte Carlo is beating down on the French Riviera. Inside, however, things are heating up, as Patrik Antonius has walked in. Here to take the rail pressure off of Ivey, as one of the tournament staff said.

Arnaud Gets a Hand When it Matterns

"I played a sick hand earlier," said Arnaud Mattern, smiling in a way that suggested that he was on the good end of it.

Turns out he'd called a raise with {A-?} {9-?} in the big blind to see a {Q-?} {9-?} {6-?} flop with two other players in the hand. They checked around on the flop but come the {9-?} on the turn Mattern check-raised, getting one caller. The river was the fourth {9-?} to give him quads and Mattern made a chunky bet, which his opponent paid off. Said unhappy opponent mucked - but said that he'd had pocket queens...

Phillips Tough Decision

With plenty of chips already in the pot, Dennis Phillips was faced with a decision for a lot of his chips when an opponent moved all in for around 20,000.

The board read {3-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{3-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{10-Spades} and Phillips, though enjoying a massage did not look too happy. He finally mucked his cards and the pot was sent to his opponent.

Raymer Straightened Out

Greg Raymer (position) and one other player made it to the {5-Spades} {9-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} flop. The young player checked to the former world champion, who bet 1,800. The checker paused, and then made the call.

They proceeded to a {7-Hearts} turn and this time Mr. Young Opponent bet out 4,000. Raymer raised to 20,000, his opponent called all in for just a little less than the raise, and they were on their backs.

Mr. Young Opponent: {8-Clubs} {8-Hearts}
Raymer: {10-Clubs} {10-Hearts}

"Oh," said Raymer. "I have two outs."

River: {5-Hearts}

With that, Raymer looked rather disappointed and dropped to around 19,000.

Full-y Frustrated

FullFlush
FullFlush
When we walked up to Luke Schwartz's table he was asking the dealer if he was allowed to talk to his opponent about his hand.

The board read {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{10-Spades}{3-Spades}{7-Clubs}.

Schwartz was faced with bet of 6,200. He was visibly frustrated, knocking all of his chips over, also, putting his head down on the table.

"I've got a ten as well," he said.

After some time, he mucked {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} face up. "I'll give you $200 if you show me."

His opponent mucked his cards saying, "You gave him $250." (Talking about another player at the table.)

Langmann Spoils The Party

Steve Sung raised preflop from the cutoff to 500, Shane "Shaniac" Schleger reraised to 1,700 from the button but then Florian Langmann decided to get involved by 4-betting to 4,200 in the small blind. Sung immiedately folded and Schleger quickly followed.

Nacho Chips Up

Jose "Nacho" Barbero just eliminated an opponent in a large pot to boost himself over 40,000.

There were three limps and Barbero raised to 1,200. The small blind reraised to 3,600 and Barbero was the only caller.

On the {9-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} flop, the small blind bet 5,600 and Barbero raised to 11,200. The small blind reraised all-in for about 20,000 or so and Barbero made the call.

Small Blind: {Q-?} {Q-?}
Barbero: {K-?} {K-?}

After a blank {3-Spades} turn and an equally unimpressive {5-Clubs} river Barbero knocked out his foe.
