Ahary Moment For Daniel

Daniel Negreanu loses a pot
Daniel Negreanu loses a pot

Even the best in the world cannot win every hand. Team Pokerstars Pro and EPT Vienna Chip Leader Daniel Negreanu just lost a few of his chips in a pot to Nima Ahary.

Ahary opened under the gun to 22,200 and Negreanu defended his Big Blind by making the call. The flop was {9-Spades} {5-Spades} {10-Clubs} and Negreanu check-called a bet of 26,000 from Ahary. The turn was {6-Spades} and the board started to look a little connected. Negreanu folded and Ahary took down the pot.

Gonzalez Slow

A decision which could have ended Victorino Torres' seesaw day took upwards of five minutes and ended up giving him a big pot without the extra stress of having necessarily to have the best hand.

Tores had raised preflop to 23k and been threebet by small blind Fabrizio Gonzalez (to 50,500). He made the call and they saw a flop of {J-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}. Out bet Gonzalez - 46k - and after a brief dwell Torres moved all in. Gonzalez asked for a count, and then stared at the 177,500, the impassive Torres and the chips in the pot for a long time. He finally opted to fold, but didn't look delighted about it.

Torres, and his stunningly bright orange baseball cap (see previous picture) remain in the tournament with 375k.

Erlandsen Backs Down From Sunar, Busts Lechner

Surinder Sunar, unbustable apparently
Surinder Sunar, unbustable apparently

Two hands in a row saw people shove their stacks at Morten Erlandsen, but in very different circumstances. The first attacker was Surinder Sunar, who moved in for 94k into a pot of 100k on the turn of a {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{2-Clubs} board. A long think and some counting later and Erlandsen declined to call.

The second, however, was super-short-stacked Matthias Lechner whose 53k total wasn't enough to get rid of Erlandsen after he'd raised preflop to 18,500. He called with {K-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and spiked the {9-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{7-Spades} board vs. Lechner's {3-Clubs}{3-Hearts} to send him home in 44th place.

Confusion as Baranov's Luck Runs Out

Online Qualifier Konstantinos Nanos
Online Qualifier Konstantinos Nanos

Team Pokerstars Pro Daniel Negreanu called for the floor when there was confusion in a hand involving Sergii Baranov and Pokerstars Online Qualifier Konstantinos Nanos. Baranov had declared an all-in but Nanos thought it was just a raise. The floorman tried to settle the dispute but we couldn't understand what they were saying as he was speaking in Nanos own language. The decision was irrelevant anyway as Nanos decided to call Baranov's all-in.

Baranov: {8-Hearts} {8-Clubs}

Nanos: {k-Hearts} {k-Clubs}

What as all the fuss about? The flop brought a glimmer of hope for Baranov {7-Spades} {9-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} but the {k-Spades} turn and {2-Spades} river ended Baranov's hopes of EPT glory.

Nanos ~758,000

Torres Smells a Rat

Victorino Torres showed caution on the river when Giacomo Maisto checked to him on a {2-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{J-Hearts} board. The heart on the river and the no-bet from Maisto (who only had about 100k left having built a pot of nearly twice that already) might have been suspicious - he checked behind and was glad he did when Maisto showed {K-Hearts}{7-Hearts} to take the pot and rise to over 300k.

Doubling

Some tales of doubling up for you to share.

Double Up 1 - Bruno Launais

Launais doubled up courtesy of Pokerstars Online Qualifier Matthias Lechner when his Ace-Eight Suited stood the test against Lechner's {k-Spades} {q-Hearts}.

Double Up 2 - Claudiu Secara

Secara doubled up courtesy of Emile Jad Yazbeck when his Pocket Queens defeated Yazbeck's {a-Hearts} {j-Hearts} despite a little scare on the flop {9-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {6-Hearts} turn {5-Spades} river {k-Diamonds}.
