Big Names and a Big Stack Headline Day 2
Welcome back to Day 2 of the LAPT Season 3 Grand Final. Action is set to resume at 12:00 ARG here at South America’s largest casino, the City Center Casino in Rosario, Argentina. Yesterday saw 254 players take their shot at an LAPT title including some of the game’s biggest names. By night’s end, only about 130 hopefuls remained.
Leading the way with a monster chip stack, more than double his nearest competitor, is Nicolas “PKaiser” Fierro with 278,200. The next two biggest stacks belong to Mario Niciforo (130,000) and Arnaldo Mesas (116,600), but even combined they still cannot surpass Fierro. Also returning for Day 2 are a number of recognizable names including Andre Akkari (71,900), Terrence Chan (67,700), Angel Guillen (47,800), Jose “Nacho” Barbero (42,200), Dennis Phillips (33,800), and Veronica Dabul (30,700).
Two of the biggest names in the LAPT are also among the Day 1 survivors. Jose “Nacho” Barbero won back-to-back Main Events at the LAPT Punta del Este and LAPT Lima stops, earning $529,330 for his efforts, and solidifying his reputation as one of the best. Today the Argentinean pro will be going for his third LAPT title of the season. Meanwhile, Mattias Habernig (50,300), who emerged victorious in the LAPT Florianopolis last month, is attempting to match Barbero’s feat of claiming back-to-back LAPT titles and has put himself in decent position to do so. Will two be able to crack the top 40 and win their share of the $1,176,200 prizepool, $322,280 of which goes to first? We will likely know later today as we attempt to play down to the final 24 players.
