Hand-for-Pop!

Money, honey
Money, honey

Surprise! You're all in the money! We're down to 40 and in the money without any fanfare at all. Tournament staff thought they were pausing the tables to start hand-for-hand with 42 players remaining. But they discovered an extra seat card and realized there were actually only 41 people still seated. No worries. They would just start hand-for-hand next. Except they never got to the next hand. Severin Walser, a PokerStars online qualifier from Switzerland, busted almost instantly after they told dealers to pause before the next deal. Walser goes home with the dubious distinction of bubble boy, and everyone else is guaranteed at least $6,470.

Now let the post-money busting begin!

Slowing Down

Action has slowed down now that we're so close to the bubble; however, we did manage to lose someone. The all-in player held {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} and was in good position to double against the {A-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} of his opponent. Unfortunately for him, the board ran out {9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{9-Hearts}. He finished in 43rd place, leaving just two more spots to be filled until the money.

Got Chan?

We've seen it before and we just saw it again . . . Terrence Chan versus Nicolas Fierro Gottner. Chan hasn't been shy in tangling with the chip leader and another decent pot just developed between the two.

We caught the action on the flop with the board reading {5-Clubs}{3-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} and around 19,000 in the pot. Gottner checked, Chan bet 7,800 and Gottner check-raised to 24,000. Chan thought for a second before making the call.

Both players checked the {8-Clubs} on the turn and saw the {7-Hearts} appear on the river. Gottner checked yet again and Chan slowly grabbed a stack of yellow chips and a single blue chip, totaling 26,000, and slid them into the pot. Gottner conceded the pot and Chan grew his stack to nearly 185,000.

Floor!

There was a major commotion at one of the corner tables, only made louder by its proximity to the rail. One short-stack moved all in, and another player tried to call but didn't put out enough chips to cover the bet. The all-in player tried his best to argue that it wasn't a call, but the floor ruled that it would stand as a call since the player had put in enough and the all-in player had no action remaining.

The short stack tabled {q-Hearts}{j-Clubs} to his opponent's {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}. The board ran out {k-Spades}{j-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{10-Spades}, and the big stack gave a loud cheer. The eliminated player simply moved his arguing a few feet from the table. And with that, we're down to 43.

A Little Deterr for Chan

Terrence Chan was cruising along nicely. Then he picked up {k-Spades}{k-Clubs} and got Eduardo Panno to join him to the flop. It came a dangerous {j-Spades}{10-Clubs}{9-Hearts}, and Panno committed his whole stack. Chan called to see that Panno's {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} had flopped the nuts. The turn and river didn't bring Chan any help, and he doubled Panno to 140,000. That left Chan with an equal 140,000 in his stack.

Angel Hit Hard

We picked up the action on the river with a board reading {2-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and about 12,000 in the pot. It was small blind versus big blind, with Angel Guillen having the advantage of position in the big. The small blind checked and Guillen bet 7,000. The small time took his time before making the call.

"Queen," Guillen announced as he turned over {Q-Clubs}{3-Hearts}. His opponent hesitated again before turning over {K-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for a flush. We're not sure if this qualifies as a slowroll but it sure was close. Guillen is down to just 33,000.
