Midwest Regional Champion Anderson Eliminated by Binger

Jim Anderson (Day 1a)
Jim Anderson (Day 1a)

The champion of the first-ever WSOP Circuit $10,000 Regional Championship event has just hit the rail. Jim Anderson won the event last month in Hammond, Indiana, but he won't be winning this NAPT Main Event here in Los Angeles. The player who did the deed was Michael Binger.

On the flop of {Q-Spades}{6-Hearts}{3-Hearts}, Anderson check-raised Binger's bet of 5,600 to 15,900. Binger then reraised to put Anderson all in for his last 25,000 or so and Anderson called.

Binger held a flush draw with the {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and Anderson the {K-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} for top pair. The turn brought the eliminating blow to Anderson when the {7-Hearts} fell and gave Binger an unbeatable flush. The river completed the board with the {J-Spades}.

Anderson packed up his things and left the room while Binger stacked up the chips and moved to 224,000.

Baldwin Check-Raised

With around 26,000 in the pot and a board reading {5-Spades}{J-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}, the big blind checked to Eric Baldwin and he bet 8,200. The big blind then check-raised to 33,000. Baldwin tanked for two minutes before laying his hand down.

"Wanna see the bluff or no?" asked the Big Blind before showing {5-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}. While it wasn't exactly a bluff, Baldwin indicated that it was still the best hand. With that hit, Baldwin is down to around 95,000.

Leah Builds by Check-Shoving Turn

Mike Leah, David Sesso and Steve Karp saw the flop come down {K-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} with about 45,000 chips in the middle. Leah was up first and bet 16,500. Sesso called and Karp folded.

The turn card brought the {9-Diamonds} and Leah checked with about 60,000 in chips left in his stack. Sesso bet out 22,000 and then Leah went into the tanked. He counted down his chips and moved all in for 60,600. Sesso tanked for a minute before folding, allowing Leah to scoop the pot and increase to around 160,000.

Pilgrim Doubles

Dwyte Pilgrim
Dwyte Pilgrim

After the player in the cutoff seat raised, Dwyte Pilgrim reraised all in from the big blind for a little over 30,000 in chips. The original raiser called and it was Pilgrim's {J-}{9-} up against the {A-}{10-} for his opponent.

The board ran out {Q-}{J-}{J-}{4-}{6-} and Pilgrim hit three jacks to double up to over 60,000 in chips.

Negreanu Eliminated

Action folded to Daniel Negreanu in middle position and he moved all in for his last 20,700. The next player to act was in the hijack and moved all in himself for a huge raise. The isolation worked as the blinds got out of the way.

Negreanu: {K-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Hijack: {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs}

Negreanu was at risk and behind. The {6-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop changed nothing and the {J-Diamonds} on the turn gave Negreanu an open-ended straight draw. Unfortunately for him, the river was the {J-Spades} and he was eliminated from the NAPT Los Angeles.

Get a Grip-po

Nick Grippo
Nick Grippo

Nick Grippo is still killing this thing. Upon last glance, Grippo has the chip lead by far in the tournament with 622,000 in chips. They're neatly stacked 30-chip towers in front of him. We'll see if he can hold onto them or if one of the other 189 players can do something about it.

Sowers Shows and Smiles

Mike Sowers (Day 1b)
Mike Sowers (Day 1b)

With approximately 25,000 chips in the middle, the board was {K-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{8-Spades} in a hand between Mike Sowers and Joseph Elpayaa. Sowers fired 14,900 on the turn and after a minute, Elpayaa made the call.

The river brought the {9-Spades} and Sowers thought for a few moments prior to betting out 38,900. Elpayaa tanked for a bit, but eventually folded his hand. Sowers showed the {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs} with a big smile and won the pot. He's now up to 235,000 while Elpayaa dropped to 97,000.

Mercier On the Rise

With about 20,000 in the pot and a board reading {J-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}, the big blind checked and Jason Mericer bet 11,500. The big blind didn't take long to call and the {K-Clubs} hit the river.

Once again the big blind checked to Mercier, who this time bet 25,200. The big blind called but tapped the table and mucked when he saw Mercier's {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}. Mercier is up to 165,000.
