Schwartz Grabs Early Lead

Luke Schwartz
Luke Schwartz
Luke Schwartz raised to 6,000 with the {A-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and JC Tran picked up pocket jacks -- {J-Clubs}{J-Spades} -- for the second hand in a row. He three-bet his jacks again, this time making it 17,000. Schwartz made the call out of position.

The flop came down {Q-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and both players checked, keeping the pot small. The turn was the {5-Clubs} and Schwartz fired 26,000. Tran made the call.

The river was the {A-Spades} and Schwartz fired an overbet of 100,000 chips. Tran insta-mucked and Schwartz scooped the pot to move to the chip lead with 340,000 chips.

Negreanu Takes One with Aggression

Daniel Negreanu raised to 6,000 from early-middle position with the {5-Hearts}{4-Spades}. JC Tran just flat-called with the {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} and then Phil Hellmuth called with the {Q-Spades}{8-Spades}. Luke Schwartz called from the big blind with the {7-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}.

The flop came down with the one card Tran didn't want to see, an ace: {A-Spades}{7-Hearts}{5-Clubs}. Schwartz checked and Negreanu fired a continuation bet for 15,000. One by one, everyone in the hand folded and Negreanu picked up the pot with the worst starting hand of the bunch.

Frazer Three-bets Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth opened to 6,000 with the {Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}. Ian Frazer took this opportunity to three-bet Hellmuth to 21,000 holding {A-Clubs}{6-Clubs}. Everyone folded back over to Hellmuth, who stated, "God, I just want to play every pot." Eventually though, he folded his hand and Frazer won the pot.

There have been a lot of three-bets in this match so far.

Timoshenko's Out-of-the-box Play Leaves Him Crippled

Rare misstep for Timoshenko
Rare misstep for Timoshenko
Tony G limped in with the {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and then Yevgeniy Timoshenko attacked the limp with a raise to 16,000 with the {K-Diamonds}{J-Spades}. Timoshenko has often been attacking the limps and did so again here. Giovanni Safina called with the {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} and then Daniel Negreanu called with the {A-Hearts}{7-Hearts}. Phil Hellmuth folded the small blind with the {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} and then Ian Frazer folded {J-?}{5-?} from the big blind.

The flop smacked Safina in the face when it came down {Q-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}. Tony G and Timoshenko checked and then Safina bet 22,000. Negreanu folded and then Tony G followed suit. Timoshenko had other things in mind. He thought for a little while and then raised to 67,000. Safina just smooth called.

One of the best cards peeled off on the turn for Timoshenko, the {10-Spades}. It gave him an open-ended straight draw and he tanked again. He had about a pot-sized bet left in his stack and opted to just check. Safina fired a bet of 70,000 into the pot of 204,000. Timoshenko check-raised all in for 236,000 and Safina quickly called with the current nuts.

The river card was the {6-Clubs} and Timoshenko could've come from behind to hit his draw and was knocked down to a crippling 4,000 chips.

Yevgeniy Timoshenko is the First Out

On ya bike!
On ya bike!
Yevgeniy Timoshenko was all in from the big blind for his last 4,000 chips after being crippled on a recent hand at the hands of PartyPoker online qualifier Giovanni Safina. He picked up the {A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}. Ian Frazer had him dominated and called on the button with the {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades} after Phil Hellmuth limped from the cutoff with the {K-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. Luke Schwartz completed from the small blind with the {K-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}.

Everyone checked around as the board ran out {10-Spades}{7-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and Frazer won the hand with his flush. Timoshenko was sent home in eighth place and earned zero points today.

Relegation

Tony G and Phil Hellmuth just bet $10,000 on whether or not Hellmuth will return next year. Hellmuth thinks that even if he finishes in the bottom four overall, that he'll still be invited back next year to play. Tony G took the bet, thinking that Hellmuth won't be invited back because his results aren't good enough to invite him back if his finishes that low. The two agreed on $10,000 for the wager.
