McDonald Bubbles 2012 PCA $25,000 High Roller

Mike McDonald
Mike McDonald

From under the gun, Isaac Haxton raised to 12,000. Jason Koon flat-called from the cutoff seat and then action fell on Mike McDonald on the button. McDonald three-bet to 34,000. Action was now on Leonid Vichman in the small blind, but Bill Perkins chimed in and asked how much the reraise was for. The dealer announced the amount and then Perkins said, "Raise," and slid out chips, but action was still on Vichman.

He was stopped and pulled his chips back. Perkins was very apologetic about the mistake as Vichman then folded. Perkins then slid out the reraise to make it 81,000 to go. Haxton and Koon folded.

"It's you and me, buddy," said Perkins to McDonald with a smile. "I hope I've got you covered."

McDonald took a few more seconds prior to shoving all in for around 215,000.

"How much more is it?" asked Perkins quickly. "Whatever, I call," he added before the dealer could start to count McDonald's chips. McDonald tabled the {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades} and Perkins the {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}.

"Oh, don't let him get me!" said Perkins.

The flop came down {K-Spades}{J-Clubs}{9-Clubs} and McDonald picked up a straight draw. He was still behind the top pair for Perkins, though, and then the dealer dealt the {J-Diamonds} to pair the board on the turn. McDonald needed a ten on the river, but wouldn't get it after the {5-Diamonds} fell and he was eliminated from the tournament.

"Can I get $100 from everybody for that?" asked Perkins as a joke. He's up to 575,000 now and everyone left has locked up at least $58,020.

Koon's Double Knockout Brings Us to Bubble

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Jason Koon records the double knockout, and is just short of a million chips.
Jason Koon records the double knockout, and is just short of a million chips.

Manny Jo open-shoved for his last 56,000 from the cutoff seat, Jason Koon called on the button, and Keven Stammen tanked, then re-shoved for a little over 100,000 from the small blind. Koon called the extra 50,000 or so, and all three hands were opened.

Showdown
Jo: {a-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
Koon: {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Stammen: {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

The {6-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{k-Hearts} flop smacked Koon right in the head, giving him a leading pair of kings. The turn and river bricked with the {6-Hearts} and {8-Clubs}, respectively, and both Jo and Stammen were eliminated from the tournament.

We are now playing hand-for-hand, and the next player eliminated will be the "bubble boy."

Jonathan Duhamel raised to 16,000 from the small blind, and Randy Lew defended his big blind. The flop came down {6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, and Duhamel led for 17,000. Lew called.

Both players knuckled after the {j-Diamonds} turned, and the {8-Clubs} completed the board. Duhamel checked, Lew fired 33,000, and Duhamel released.

Nick Yunis opened to 16,000 from under the gun. Team PokerStars Pro Jonathan Duhamel called in the cutoff seat, Team PokerStars Online Member Randy Lew called on the button, and Josh Bergman three-bet to 56,000 from the small blind.

The action was back on Yunis, who tanked for nearly five minutes before moving all in for about 600,000 chips. Duhamel and Lew got out of the way, and Bergman tank-called.

Showdown
Yunis: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Bergman: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

The board ran {q-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}, and Bergman was eliminated.

"That's a crazy move with tens," Duhamel told Yunis after the hand.

"It was tough," Yunis responded. "But I had a few reasons."

Vichman Doubles with Queens

From under the gun, one of the short stacks in the field Leonid Vichman raised to 15,000. Isaac Haxton three-bet to 37,000 from the hijack seat and then Mike McDonald four-bet to 74,000 from the big blind. Vichman took his time and then reraised all in for 146,000 total. Haxton folded and McDonald called.

Vichman: {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}
McDonald: {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}

A board of {K-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} followed and Vichman's queens held strong. McDonald sent over the chips and Vichman doubled through.

Fox Chips Up

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Elio Fox
Elio Fox

The reigning World Series of Poker Europe Main Event champion Elio Fox has just taken two pots in the recent minutes to chip up a bit, thanks in large part to using aggression as his weapon.

On the first hand, Fox three-bet to 42,000 from the big blind after Bill Perkins raised to 15,000 from under the gun. Perkins folded and Fox won the pot.

Shortly thereafter, Fox reraised to 32,000 from the button after Kunimaro Kojo opened to 12,000 from the cutoff seat. Kojo called and took the {J-Spades}{8-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop out of position. Kojo checked and Fox bet 30,000. Kojo folded and Fox won this pot as well.
